I don't recall exactly where the pictures came from but I think perhaps
they either came from e-bay or a Civil War writer/collector I know. In
my mind, I am thinking it came from a Barnum advertisement and/or other
sources as he is featured in many different books, magazines, and
internet articles that included the same photo. Not only was he with
Barnum's Circus but he was also an actor that performed in the 1838-39
Giant of Palestine play as the Giant although the reviews never
mentioned him. It didn't all come from one source but is a compilation
of data I found on the internet. I will keep looking as the site I am
most familiar with is not loading this a.m. I don't know why I didn't
include a better biblio of where I acquired the info for the page I
wrote for the Civil War site. Be assured you can copy the info on the
website without fear of copyright infringement because the compilation
is mine and the photo is from a carte-de-visite card that is out of
copyright by now and there were multiple copies of it.
A Google search will reveal many tidbits on the giant. Some call him a
Belgium Giant, others call him a French Giant. One such source with a
photo of him is at: http://brightbytes.com/collection/special_people.html
