Looking for any information regarding the circumstances and details of Captain Jacob F.
Miller of Company K of the Third Iowa Cavalry. Miller was dismissed from the army by Court
Matial on June 27, 1862, but I have not been able to uncover any further information as to
why. On that same date was the skirmish at Village Creek, Arkansas in which the Second
Lieutenant Griswold of Company K and two others were killed in a guerilla ambush, along
with seven others from the company wounded. This was quite a large loss for a simple
foraging mission. I wonder if Miller was somehow held accountable for the disaster or if
he had already been discharged by then? The detached regiment would have been a part of
General Steele's army, which at that time was operating in northern Arkansas.
