I don't know if this is the correct forum for this question, so if it isn't, I
apologize in advance.
I'm trying to figure out how one would determine that a man buried in Little Rock
National Cemetery as:
DAY, J B
PVT US ARMY
DATE OF DEATH: 06/04/1865
BURIED AT: SECTION 3 SITE 2804
Would be the same man as:
Name: John Day
Residence: Albia, Iowa
Enlistment Date: 19 Aug 1862
Side Served: Union
State Served: Iowa
Service Record: Enlisted as a Private on 19 August 1862 at the age of 34.
Enlisted in Company K, 36th Infantry Regiment Iowa on 15 Sep 1862.
Died of disease Company K, 36th Infantry Regiment Iowa on 3 Jun 1865 at Saint Charles,
I've seen another situation like this, where the record has his death date one day off
from the burial record, so it seems to me very likely I'm talking the same person, but
how would I prove it? The names don't match, and the unit isn't listed on the
burial index, and the dates are one day off.
(I'm assuming the stone matches the Nationwide Gravesite Locator, but I've asked
for a picture of the stone anyway).
