Will someone please look in the 1900 census for the John Richards family
living near Charles City, Floyd County, IA? By 1900 his first wife was
dead, but I am not sure when he married Louise. The children include
Charles, William, Cora, Clara and Lydia. I am hoping a younger daughter,
whose name is unknown, will be listed on the census. Thanks for searching
for my distant relatives. Gerald R.
I would kindly request a census lookup in Humboldt County for a KNAP or KNAPP (have seen the name transposed as Kropp, Knopp, Knoff, Knaff, etc.) family consisting of any of the following members:
John b. NY or PA
Mary (aka Elizabeth) b. NY
John D (aka Davis) b. PA
Charles L b. NY
Malissa b. NY
James b. NY
Henry b. NY
Maryan b. NY
Clarissa (aka Clara) b. IL 1857
Francis (male) b. IL 1858
Clarissa/Clara married Willis A. Spooner 1871 in Humboldt Cty. She was 14 at the time and my guess is her father, John, may have died prior to her marriage - not very scientific assumption :)
The family was in Winnebago Cty, IL in 1860 with all family members. I believe by 1880 Henry, Mary/Elizabeth and Francis were enumerated on the Jo Daviess Cty, IL census.
Any and all assistance is appreciated. Thank you for wonderful volunteers!
Clarence, (dob abt 1859) wife Rosa and family are on the 1900 Salix Iowa

Clarence again on any later census in Salix, Iowa. Thanks much, Pat

Alice, Dick and Joan,
I never expected a response let alone three. What great bunch of people on this list.
My family is Caucasian. I couldn't find him in Maryland or Delaware...a lot of WJ and William John CORNISH'S listed but not of my race. The reason I said he used John was my father said he hated his name and never used it.
I believe his first name was Willis, changed it to William and was in the habit of using John.???
His wife's full name was Frances Margaret MATLOCK b Nov 6, 1858 in Creston IL. d Jan. 16, 1941 in Ainsworth NE..
note: her head stone says she was born in Iowa but death certificate and family papers say, Illinois.
I can only prove two of the eight children they had:
Sam Lee CORNISH b Feb 21, 1884 in Lynch NE. Knox Cty.
d April 3, 1979 Valentine NE. Cherry Cty.
David Guy CORNISH (my grandfather) b Nov. 18, 1896 in O'Neill NE. d Feb. 2, 1935 in Ainsworth, NE.
There was an Arthur, Mary, Bob and more but I don't know.
I'm sorry if I've told you more than you want to know but this part of my clan is so frustrating. Thank you for any help you can give me. Bonnie greavu(a)3rivers.net
It doesn't look like they were in IA in 1880, as the only John's or Frances' were born around the 1850 time frame.
Checking the National INdex on the LDS 1880 Census CD, almost all the Cornish's born in MD were either black or mulatto, are you looking for a black/mulatto family?
The other option to think about is, whoever gave the information to the census taker gave a different birthplace. Do you have any of their children's names that I can search on?

Hi there..here you go
State: IA Year: 1870

Township: Grove Township Page: 083
Database: IA 1870 Federal Census Index
The census page is very light, and if you did not name off the children, I
am not sure I would have been able to read it (smile)..I also did save the
portion of the page where your family is listed to my computer, if you would
like me to send it, please email me privatly and I will. I do not like
sending attachments without first asking permission..
Anyway the info is as follows:
Eliza J. Conaway
Works on their Farm
Age could be 10 or 11??
Age 9 Attends School
There was no John Living with them.

I am searching for the Hemmer surname; specifically Anna (Annie) Hemmer
(approx age 48)with children in the 1920 Black Hawk County census and
am thinking possibly Gilbertsville. I found her ex-husband, Frank in
Cedar Twp. with one child, Arthur. His census entry indicates they
were (Divorced). In reviewing Ancestry's on-line census data, I'm
confused as to where to find the census records for Gilbertsville in
Poyner Twp. Also, other Twps seem to not be listed under their own
Twps records or under the "other twps". Can anyone help? Thanks.
Could someone kindly see if Lewis Ellsworth Dyer is on the 1856 census? I
have him on the 60, 70 and 80, but cannot place him anywhere before that.
Also nothing about his wife, Cordelia Thanks a million
Could anyone please find an Ellen Williams living with her husband,
William Williams or possibly she is a widow. She has one son, Eddie.
They might be living in MARIETTA TOWNSHIP in 1900.
She was born in Vermont, parents born in VT.
I would appreciate anyone's help in finding a Conaway family for me in the 1870 Census of Davis County, Iowa, hopefully Grove Twp.
