Hi Sue,
The civil registration will (almost certainly) give the fathers' names. Get it through
the GRO. Find the reference number for the marriage through Free BMD, Find my past,
Ancestry,...
I don't have the full St Illtyd's records, only the excellent indexes published in
booklet form by the Glamorgan Family History society. Copies of the original records
(which have additional information eg godparents in the case of baptisms) are held by
Merthyr Tydfil Library. See this list's archives for more details.
Good luck.
Sean

Just a quick reply and thank you enormously. That is the family - or those are the
families. I am right now sending for the marriage record of Bartholomew Shea and Ellen
Moran; I had hopes that it might include the fathers' names but I gather maybe not.
Now I need to go and further "digest" the information you sent - a
lot! and I thank you enormously. Do you have the St. Illtyd's
records?
Many thanks. Sue

Hi Sue,
I can't answer the question of what happened to your gg-grandfather James Shea but I
do have some relevant information from the registers of St Illtyd's Catholic church in
Dowlais. (I found no obviously relevant data in the registers of the nearby St Mary's
Catholic church in Merthyr Tydfil.)
