In 1881 census He is 32 and she is 31, eldest son is 6, so presumably they
married around 1873/74. All children born in Briton Ferry. In 1891 (he is
shown as Dd Williams) they were 42 and 41.
FreeBMD searching on marriage of David Williams with an Emily on the same
page around those dates shows up two possibles
March 1872 in Truro district (which included St Agnes) - Emily Firstbrook
June 1874 in Swansea district - Emily Williams
There was indeed an Emily Firstbrook aged 11 in 1861 census, born St Agnes.
In Familysearch she appears to have been baptised twice in 1850 and 1856,
same parents, both in St Agnes parish church, so she may well have married
there. It was on the north coast of Cornwall, so quite a likely place for a
mariner from the Neath/Swansea area to have had cause to visit and become
acquainted with the locals. In 1861 she lived next door to a pub.
http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/Cornwall/StAgnes/index.html says this was a
tin and copper mining area. All the more reason for ships from Swansea area
to call in and load up.
There is an OPC for the parish at
http://www.cornwall-opc.org/ but no
coverage of marriages after 1812.
FreeReg has quite good coverage of Cornwall and marriages of some of her
siblings seem to be there in St Agnes, but not Emily.
Try asking on a Cornwall mailing list.
Plenty of Emily Williams about the right age born Cornwall, none born in St
Agnes. So first hunch for your Emily would be the first one found.
Obviously this is just a suggestion. You would need to get a birth
certificate for one of their children to be sure. The children seem to have
common names so you may need to be careful. Also it is not clear at what
date David changed from being a mariner to being a Trinity House Pilot.
