Glad you have received my email as I haven't yet! ;-)) You are quite
correct Adrian. The page and URL I sent gave the York address, whilst the
link gave the Leeds address. I have phoned them and the address is LEEDS.
My best wishes, Jill

Copies of the wills are now obtainable from Leeds and NOT York: -
Postal Searches and Copies Department
Leeds District Probate Registry
York House
York Place
Leeds
LS1 2BA
See: -

I applied by letter and did not bother with a form for each copy I needed.

Oops - should have said you can view the Indexes in libraries, sorry about
that. Obviously tired when I wrote that. The indexes are what you get in
ancestry etc., etc.,
When you find the person you seek you can either take down the details,
which should give you address and the executor and how much was left to
whom. The full will can be purchased from The Probate Office, Castle
Chambers, Clifford Street, York. YO1 9RG - used to cost £5.00
http://www.theprobatedepartment.co.uk/your-probate-questions/copy-will-after
-death-how-to-get-one/
They can also be read and purchased here.
Post-1858 wills for England and Wales can be consulted at the Probate Dept
of The Principal Registry Family Division: Probate Search Room, First Avenue
House, 42-49 High Holborn, London, WC1V 6NP.
Hope this helps.
My best wishes, Jill

Although - you can usually view these in most large libraries and some
Record Offices. They are usually on film although some still carry copies
of the large and heavy registers.
See
http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/Probate.html
Also a subscription to ancestry.co.uk has The National Probate Calendar
available as you wished, online.
If your family left property in more than country or county.

DocumentsOnline
Whilst picking up these URLs I came across some interesting link which I
must follow up.
Newspaper Index
Another collection that will help you discover lost riches in your family
tree is Andrews Newspaper Index Cards, 1790-1976. These detailed newspaper
cuttings were put together by heir hunters, chasing the correct
beneficiaries to your ancestors' property after they died.
You never know in Family history. Turn over every stone! ;-))

No, they aren't.
From the National Library of Wales site:
<quote>
For the period after 1858 the Library has custody of register copy
wills from 5 registries, covering all but one (Montgomeryshire) of the
Welsh counties, and a full set of the annual index of all wills and
administrations granted in England and Wales, known as the Calendar of
Grants, from 1858 to 1972.
