Hi Jeff,
Many thanks for your suggestions and for your time in looking them up. Much appreciated. I
shall certainly take a closer look at them. Trouble is, I have no oral history clues to go
on, eg, siblings' names, etc. So at present it is rather like a needle in a haystack.
I shall try and find out about soldiers in the Boer War.
Can I make another request please? Is there anyone with access to the 1891 census who is
able to check if there are SUMMERS at the following addresses, this might help
enormously.
The addresses are 19 Lawrence St, Caerphilly, and 33 White St, Caerphilly.
Many thanks again for your help, Jeff, and to anyone else on the List who might be able to
assist.
Best wishes to all for a happy new year and much demolition of brickwalls.
Christine

Hello Christine
Having had a look at 1901 census, and bearing in mind known patterns of
migration to Glamorgan, I would suggest a close look at Walter age 11 born
Frome, Somerset, living at 'Taunton S Mary Within' on the same census page
as
Emily age 45 b Worcester
Alice 18 b Bromyard Herefordshire, 'Collar Machinist Shirt'
Charles 15 Porter at Grocers b 'Clifton on Tyne, Worcestershire'
Kathleen 7 b Frome
Victor 4 b Frome
It is possible that Albert, 13 b 'Clifton on Tyne, Worcestershire' and also
resident in the same parish, errand boy, was also in the same family.
The Advanced Search on 1901 confirms that Emily was married. Possibly if her
husband was a soldier he would have been away fighting the Boer War.
On FreeBMD there doers not seem to be a relevant birth in Frome, but one in
Dec 1889 in Calne district, and one in Sep 1889 in Honiton, and one in Sep
1889 in Dudley
There might be a relevant marriage in Sep 1882 quarter in King's Norton,
near Birmingham
However all these ideas may be quite wrong. Can anyone find this family in
1891 to rule them out - or in as possibles?
Any experts on searching Boer War soldiers?
Jeff
