Subject: [GLA] Finding The History of a Business
Hello,
Here in the U.S. you can go to the county courthouse and look up the owner's
history of a business or house. Can that be done in Wales?
My one ancestor is suppose to have operated The Buck Inn on Swansea Road in
Pontlliw earlier in the 20th century. His name was William Williams. He
first went to London and became a constable, then, he apparently ran the Inn
after he retired or else he went to London to save the money to become a pub
owner. Not sure as he has been so elusive to track. The last hard copy
proof I had of him was the 1901 census where he was in London and a
constable at the Scholefield Street Police Station. I was told by
descendants of his older brother about being a policeman, the Inn, and also,
that he was allegedly married to "Margaret" and had a son, Clifford. I
haven't been able to find him in the 1911 census so I thought I may be able
to find something on him via the pub's records. He is suppose to have lived
in Pontarddulais.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Mary Beth
