I recently found a piece of information in the Aberdare Leader that said
that A Sgt D E Jenkins 103587 was decorated for bravery whilst in the RFA
in 1918. He was son-in-law of Mr and Mrs Evans of North View Terrace.
As one of my ancestors was indeed a Mr Evans of North View Terrace and my
name is Jenkins, I was intrigued and followed it up. After much research I
discovered that he was not connected to me at all, although both my
ancestor and his father-in-law were Evan Evans.
I now have the 1918 marriage certificate for David Eynon Jenkins of 5 Wayne
St, Aberdare and Sarah Evans of 4 North Avenue, Aberdare. Despite his Army
number being noted incorrectly, I have managed to obtain various pieces of
military information that go some way to explaining what actions led to him
being decorated. For more information on the other Evans family members,
check the 1911 census as they were at the same Aberdare address then.
I will be happy to pass the certificate and all other research to anyone
who is connected to David Jenkins (whose birth was registered in
Haverfordwest in 1893) or the Evans family.
