This is a GREAT idea! I only use the GPS on my phone, so I wonder if that would work. I
just was treated to a tour of a Welsh area about an hour from home and there were a olot
of places I would have liked to have marked on my nav. I bet I could have located myself
and then placed a star or something. I made notes, which I hope will get me back, as I
want to go with my husband when it is warmer.
I will try it the next time I go somewhere.
Thanks for the tip!
Mona

I normally mark any places of interest on the Sat Nav so there will be a red square (or
something) on the screen in the car when passing somewhere that I am interested in.
I obviously have maps but I usually print out details from maps around places I want to
visit, either from the OS website, Coflein mapping or sometimes aerial views from Google
Earth / Maps. A print out on a piece of A4 has the advantage that you can scribble notes
and other markings on it - just make sure it does not blow away! I had planned to have
these small maps on my tablet when I was away from home last month but forgot to pick it
up as I left the house!
One place I visited was the cemetery in Trealaw so I had printed off the plan from the CD
and was able to scribble notes on the plan as I tried to find a grave.
I went up to photograph my Great Great Great Grandmother's birthplace near Llysdinam,
it is up the usual network of narrow lanes so I had marked the location on the car Sat Nav
then let the Sat Nav take me to the end of the public road. I then had my paper print out
of the map and also the same location loaded into my pocket GPS.

Good morning everyone
I can only echo the remarks made by Jill having visited Wales in May, I too drove all
around the Tredegar/Treharris area searching for places only to realise on my return to
France, that I had actually driven through or by them. GPS is great but you can't
beat local knowledge.
best wishes to all Gwen
