Ahh yes,"The Man who went up a Hill and came down a
Mountain."A Lovely
film.Set near Cardiff I understand?
One of the last films that the Great Actor Kenneth GRIFFITH made.
Ken was one of the few Welshmen in that film.
He being born in Tenby.
He played the part of a real "Fire & Brimstone"Chapel going Preacher in
that film.
Marvelous it was too,like innit!
I am afraid the same cannot be said about "How Green was my Valley".
Directed by John FORD,the same bloke who did all those John WAYNE Cowboy
films.
Mr FORD had originally have liked to set up his movie in the Welsh Valleys
somewhere?
But a certain Adoph HITLER stopped that with his War!
So the whole production was set up in a back-lot in down-town Los Angeles.
Apparently, the only welsh actor in that film was Rhys WILLIAMS,who played
the part of Dai BANDO.
But It's one of those films that bring tears to my Eyes everytime I see
it.
Roddy McDOWALL who played the part of Huw was born in England, but went out
to Hollywood as a youngster.
Walter PIGEON the vicar was from Canada.
Maureen O'HARA was another american I think?
Several other parts were dished out to the Yanks.
What makes me laugh today is,The Many Parts played by British actors in
the Series "Band of Brothers",made in 2001.
The English actors are all playing American soldiers.
This series is enjoying re-runs on TCM on sunday nights.
Cheers Graham.
