Hello Bevelyn
Prior to 1875 (ish) there was no penalty for not registering births. As a
result many births from 1837 to 1875 were simply not registered. I have seen
an estimate elsewhere of 25%. I have suffered from this too!
Have you attempted to locate any baptismal records for the children?

Subject: [GLA] 1844 birth registration mystery
Hi all
I'm still trying to find a birth registration for Martha EDWARDS
(father David mother Ann/e) born c 1844 Glamorgan (Swansea?). All
censuses state she was born in Glamorgan, some say Swansea as well.
Can't find her on 1837 online or on the old St. Catherine's fiche. I
have emailed the Swansea Government, and after conducting a 5 year
search inform me they have no record of her birth. Martha and her 4
siblings have been found on familysearch (batch no 2260412, source
call no 1553512) with just Glamorgan listed. A search of the LDS
library site doesn't help me much - just says details submitted by a
LDS member.
I have 2 questions - how likely would it have been that all 5 births
were not registered and could those details submitted by the LDS
member have been taken from the censuses of 1851 and 1861?
I need to obtain her birth certificate, can someone please suggest
what I should do next?
