Adding to what Caroline and Judy have said to you, don't gypsies often
belong to a 'clan'? Do you know for instance where in the country [Britain
that is] your family were located? That may tie down where the family
travelled.
In Oxfordshire, there seem to be a lot of the clans that attend and have
attended for centuries the various fairs. Some of these people have given
up the road and become integrated with a local community, which is what must
have happened to your family. Gypsies too have very very large funerals.
Would it be likely that at your grandfather's burial [or other family
member] that it was recorded in a local newspaper?
