My dad & I considered Tynewydd Colliery when we were trying to work out
which end of Ynyshir Road it might have been but as we know this road as
Aberrhondda Rd, we disregarded it and then I forgot to include it in my
e-mail..
I vaguely remember seeing a photograph of a farm or farms that were situated
close by Tynewydd and I think it may have been in one of the books mentioned
below, if that is of any use.
Tynewydd Colliery is mentioned in the South Wales Collieries Volume 1 by
Davied Owen. It gives an account of when the mine flooded in 1877 & lists
those who were awarded the Albert medal. It is also mentioned in the Porth &
Rhondda Fach by Aldo Bachetta & Glyn Rudd. Both books are published by
Tempus.
There are also 2 books by John Cornwell about collieries but I cannot find
my copy of Volume 2 & can't see Tynewydd in Volume 1. These books are
published by Landmark Publishing.
