Hi Sandi
I have only got back to my 3xg-grandfather Howell RICHARDS b. c1769 Llanwonno. He farmed
at Cefn Llwyd in the parish of Eglwysilan and I have him in the 1841 & 1851
census' records. One of his son's David took over the farm after he died. At this
stage I don't know whether they owned or rented the farm. This is the information I
am looking for. I originally found Howell RICHARDS on the IGI when I was looking for my
2xg-grandfather Phillip, his son. All this information has to be confirmed at this stage
and I couldn't say who Howell's father was.
I was looking at the listing in the Glam archives when I noticed the RICHARDS and
PERROTT family listed and wondered if there was an connection with my family, hence the
enquiry on the list.
I don't think I can help with your brickwall at this stage. It maybe that our
families are connected around Howell's time as they all seem to come from the same
area. I am more than happy to keep in touch if I find anything relevant if you let me
have your email.
Best wishes

Subject: Richards and Perrott family
Ann,
In response to your inquiry: "is anyone researching the PERROTT and
RICHARDS family who owned land in the parishes of Gelligaer,
Eglwysilan, Llanfabon and Merthyr Tydfil. This information is in the
archives at Glamorgan RO" I am researching the Richards family in
these areas.
Eventually my Richards connect with the Perrott's of Gwernau farm but
not until recent times when Edith Maude Rees, great granddaughter of
Edward Richards and Jane Thomas marries William Perrott. I have been
trying to locate the parents and siblings of my ancestor, Edward
Richards, born about 1804 in Eglwysilan but have no information about
his birth family. Edward marries Jane Thomas in 1825 at St. Barrwg's;
both are listed at this point as "of Bedwas." Jane's father was Henry
Thomas was owner of Gellideg Isaf farm, north of Gwerna farm,
Maesycwmmer. Their children have census listed birth places of Bedwas,
Bedwellty, and Llanfabon - Edward was coal merchant and collier. After
the death of Jane, Edward lives until death with his son, Daniel, in
Maesycwmmer. The family was also associated with Tabor Chapel in
Maesycwmmer but I have been unable to locate any baptismal records for
Tabor or in the parish churches of St. Barrwg of Bedwas and St.Ilan of
Eglwysilan. One family researcher has recorded Edward's father as
Thomas Henry Richards, married in 1780, Maesycwmmer. I have
categorized the various Richards families from these records but with
no luck in locating a connection.
Does any of the above look familiar from your research on the Howell
Richards family? As I have hit the proverbial brickwall, I would like
to hire someone to research in the archives at the Glamorgan RO. Could
you share the specific records where your found the references to the
Richards so that I can search them (or have them searched)?
Diolch yn fawr,
