The original archive is not being moved. All that is happening is that a
different commercial company is buying the right to publish the details
on-line as a pay-per-view service.
As far as Kew being the "logical" place for the Welsh Census returns to be
archived, I have my doubts. I would prefer them to be in the National
Library (Scottish and Northern Irish Census returns are all ready
"devolved").
As the First Minister, the Leader of the Opposition and the leader of the
Welsh Conservative Party are keen genealogists, if the National Assembly had
control of the Welsh census archive they may be more willing to release the
1911-1931 census returns without the "Westminster" 100 year rule :-)

This concerns me as much as Ancestry having the census records
Who are 1837 0n line?
If the records are National Archives why are they being removed from their
logical place Kew.?
