Gareth,
this is fascinating I was 'taught 'welsh by a maths master who was more
interested in the budding rugby player Cliff Morgan!!!!so we were left to
learn the National anthem , Lord's Prayer,Hymns and prepare set pieces about
a subject and then learn them by heart. So into my senior years of life I can
still sing the welsh Anthem withthe best and have taught it Phoenetically
to children and their Rugby enthusiast spouses.I'm fine in Wesh funerals and
can still give you a description of the buildings of Tonyrefail Grammar
School. Wouldn't mind adding something more mundane to repetoire!
The theory behind this is so interesting .Have you a contact ?
Whilee being anecdotal went to Tunisia last year and while browsing in shop
young lad went through the 'you English routine and eventually I said no
welsh after had tried others. He then started to talk to me in beautifully
pronounced and inntonated Welsh. He said he got bored so he listened to
tourists to learn their language. He must have been a natural linguist as
this info was the result of a conversation in English embarassingly for me
not welsh .
Cheers,
Sue In Llantrisant

Subject: [GLA] Learning Welsh
Hello list
Every now and then I see a message from someone
wishing that they could speak Welsh or know a bit more
about the basics of the language. So I thought I would
post this mesage.
I have just had an email from a chap who runs a Welsh
language course Cadw Swn. Based on a system known as
Suggestopedia which was devised by a Georgi Lozanov in
Bulgaria.
This technique, uses specific pieces of Classical and
Baroque music to alter brainwave patterns, putting
people into an 'accelerated learning state'. Cadw Swn
was founded by Welsh-to-adults tutor and author Colin
Jones with one aim; to produce the easiest, most
enjoyable Welsh course possible. Cadw Swn is available
worldwide, or direct from Wales.
I signed up for the newsletter and have had a reminder
that the 2008 Welsh learners diary is available.
Dyddiadur y Dysgwyr 2008.
Gareth
