Hello Gael
today with a small number of Glamorgan FHS members we had a sneak preview of
the new West Glamorgan Archives(before tonight's proper tour). On the
shelves were some books transferred from Swansea Central Library as now
surplus to their requirements. There were a set of 'Lloyd's Register of
Shipping' from around 1800 to 1830. I checked in the last volume for the
'Calstock'. I'm not sure if you have this.
Calstock Bg [brig] J.Lewis 136 [I think 136 tons] Swans. [Swansea] 1812
Williams [I assume date of building and builder] 12 [feet draught when
loaded] Sw Coast E1 28 [Second Class, presumably assessed in 1828] C.B.
[Copper Bolts] SDB [Single Deck with Beams]
E1 was Second Class which meant that she was in sound condition and could be
used to transport dry cargo safely [I paraphrase].
When the archives are properly open I'll have a look again. She was
registered 1825 in Swansea. I am not sure if you have those registration
details already.

My great-great-great-grandfather was Captain
John LEWIS who married a Joanna, probably Joanna PADDY, who was
connected with the BATH family. John and Joanna lived in Swansea and
Captain John LEWIS was the captain of the Brig "Calstock", which was
lost at sea in Feb 1836.
