The difference is that on
Ancestry.com there are images of the index
pages. The images are *just* the index pages, *not* the records
themselves. The original FreeBMD has exactly the same information
which has been extracted from those same index pages.
For example, I can do a search at FreeBMD for the birth record of
William LEWIS in October 1860 and it will give me a list of all the
William LEWISes registered in that quarter with the names of the
registration offices, the volume numbers and page numbers for each one.
Or I can go to the Ancestry version and do the same search and get a
list of all the William LEWISes registered in that quarter with links
to the image(s) of the index page(s) for that quarter which include
that name. I can then look at the image(s) of the page(s) and find
the entries of all the William LEWISes registered in that quarter
with the names of the registration offices, the volume numbers and
the page numbers for each one.
Either way, I get the same information. Personally, I prefer not to
give
Ancestry.com my money!
Yes, Susan, you get it!! 8o)

AmI /we missing some fundamental point or are others saying that
the information is different. We do need to clear thisupif for no
other reason than some people seeem to think they can not access
the information without payment.
