Hi Graham,
There is a William BIRD, in 1881, aged 4, an adopted child, born Pontypridd,
living with Nathaniel and Catherine Ann THOMAS on Coedpennar Rd., Glyntaff.
A mistake by the enumerator in the surname? There is also in the household
their own son Edwin, aged 2 and father in law Moses Jenkins, widower, aged
60, and servant Johanna Gilbert aged 14.
regards,
Dai Bevan

My thanks to Lynne, and to Don down under for the lookups.
I managed to trace through the "Free BMD;Website" the first marriage of Gwendol
ine Ellen, who was then a "SMITH" when
she married to William Charles GRAY at Cardiff district in 1893.
They had two children mentioned in the 1911 census, when Gwendoline was then mar
ried to William BURGE.
[married in 1909 in Cardiff.]
Of course, these two children were correctly stated in the 1911 census as "Step
Children"to William BURGE.
I cannot however find this William BURGE in the 1881 census anywhere of the rig
ht age?.
He would have been about 4 or 5 years old, born in Pontypridd according to the 1
911 census when he was aged 34.
Cheers Graham
