If you use Chrome, select the image of the military record card and 'save to
computer' from the Ancestry menu then the image file should show as a
download at lower left of screen. Click on the download to open it in your
usual image-handling program ( I recommend IrfanView - it is free and very
adaptable) and save it to where you want to keep it on your computer, with
your own choice of filename.
You then have the problem of opening it in your image-handling program and
printing from there- and you can delay doing that until whichever friend,
family member or neighbour gives you hands-on computer advice is there to
assist, or you are in a super-efficient problem-solving frame of mind.
I don't know exactly how Ancestry 'save to computer' behaves in other
browsers. Probably not too different.
If you can see anything at all on the screen of your computer, you can take
a snapshot of the screen using the PRT SCN button. Then open your
image-handling software (e.g. Irfanview), 'create new blank image' and
'paste' to reproduce your screen as an image. You can then crop the image
to get rid of the top and bottom bar showing web address, favourites, and
programs that you have open, and save it to where you want to keep it on
your computer, with your own choice of filename. Take care with copyright
issues.
By the way, Irfanview is on the recommended software list at FreeBMD -
http://www.freebmd.org.uk/addons/ which gives you a link to
http://www.irfanview.com/
My comments only apply to Windows computers. I expect those using Mac,
Ubuntu or Linux will find their own ways to achieve much the same.
