Thanks for all of your suggestions. I checked the page numbers and there were no missing
pages. The person signing the baptism register entries was the same person for the year
1864. I also checked St. Brides Major Parish and Monknash Parish just to see if the
baptisms had taken place there, but there were none for children of William and Mary
BOWEN.
Since the baptisms are from the parish register, I will check the Bishop's Transcript
images when I get to the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. There is also an index
there which may or may not show something different.
And the birth certificates are also a very good option. Thanks for the information about
the price increase.
Best wishes for a happy new year.

Dear List:
In trying to find all the children for William BOWEN (farmer) and Mary SANT BOWEN, I have
found what appear to be twin girls born to them in the Bridgend Registration District June
quarter of 1864, named Ann(e) and Catherine Bowen with the mother's maiden name of
SANT. I came across them while searching on Freebmd and the GRO for sibling information.
When I tried to verify their birth through baptism records from the Wick Parish Baptism
register--like the rest of the 12 children for the Bowen family, I could not find them
listed. Ann(e), however, appears to have been buried in 1866 at the age of 2 years 4
months. Catherine lived much longer, stayed single, and was buried in the Wick Parish.
I tried searching in the Cambrian newspaper online; but either there is nothing there OR I
don't know what I'm doing (possible). As William came from a gentry-type family
and was willed the land, it seemed to me that having twins would have been news. Maybe
not.
Could any of you give me suggestions as to where I might look to see if the twin
relationship is real?

Definitive information should be on the Birth Certificates ( either
certified copies or pdf copies) obtainable from GRO.
The mother's surname is so unusual that two births in the same quarter, on
the page of the register (11a 466) with the same mother's surname almost
certainly means twins.
There is shortly to be an increase in the cost of such certificates from GRO
From February 2019 Certificates will rise from the present £9.25 to
£11 PDF
copies (where available) will rise from £6 to £7.
The GENUKI page for Wick shows that there were Unitarian and Calvinistic
Methodist chapels in the parish, the latter in Broughton, where the Bowen
family seem to have lived.
See EBENEZER CALVINISTIC METHODIST CHAPEL, CHAPEL ROAD, BROUGHTON; WIG, Y;
WICK in Coflein
http://www.coflein.gov.uk/en/site/10061/details/ebenezer-calvinistic-methodi
st-chapel-chapel-road-broughton-wig-y-wick
It might be unusual for a 'Church' family to have children baptised in a
nonconformist chapel, but if the children and/or mother were not in good
health such baptism might have been sought if the incumbent of the parish
church was not contactable. Broughton was very close to the boundary with
the parish of Monknash.
You might like to check the baptism register for Wick for 1864, perhaps on
Findmypast, to see whether there seems to have been any gap in the entries
there, and whether a different person signed as the officiating minister.
Using indirect search methods I suspect that there may have been no entries
between February and July in that year, but that would need to be checked.
The GENUKI page says that the living of Wick was 'consolidated with the
vicarage of St Bride's Major' so the same clergyman would have covered both
parishes. There also seem to have been no baptisms in that parish between
early April and early July.
I understand that it is standard doctrine in the Church of England that if a
child has been baptised, even in a non-standard baptism or another
denomination, they cannot be re-baptised. Thus if the twins were baptised by
someone the local priest would not have re-baptised them. It is even
possible that they were baptised at home and that the clergyman responsible
failed to record the event in the baptism register.
