Hello Amy,
From the evidence of the 1841 census when the family were enumerated
in
Llanvrechra, Monmouthshire, Jenkin is recorded as not having been born in
Monmouthshire, so it's likely that the place of birth he gives in 1851 is
correct. I don't have the parish records for Merthyr (he was born before
civil registration), but someone else on the List may have. As his mother,
Barbara was a school mistress at Llanvrechra, there may be some records
relating to her career there. It might be useful for you to join the
Monmouthshire List, although from the 1851 census information, she was born
in Gloucestershire.
At Llanvrechra:
Jenkin Williams, 38, collier, no
Margaret Williams, 26, yes
John Williams, 7, yes
Barbara Williams, 5, yes
William Williams, 2, yes,
Barbara Williams, 67, school mistress, no

Subject: [GLA] JENKIN WILLIAMS
Could anyone direct me? I am searching for the parents of Jenkin
Williams.
On his daughter Penninah Williams' birth certificate he is listed as
having
been born in 1807/8 in Rhymney. On the 1851 census his birth is listed as
Methyr Tydfil, Glamorgan. His mother's first name was Barbara. Are their
birth records available for this time and place? Can anyone do a look up
or
tell me where to check? Many thanks.
