BOXING.-Ritz Hall Cadoxton-Barry Tues. Nov. 20 1923.
Bob MALINY was severely punished by Johnny JONES,(Senghenydd), in a 10
rounder, in a 6 round bout Bert POWELL,(Plymouth), retired after taking lots of
punishment from Harry DOLMAN,(Barry).
The fight of the evening was the 15 round match between Billy
DAVIES,(Cardiff), and Young Freddy WELSH,(Pontypridd). The bout was a clever one until
the
end, but was devoid of many robust exchanges, and the award to DAVIES on
points was a popular one.
I. JONES,(Treforest), gained a decision on points over Hector
ALDERMAN,(Pontypridd), over 10 rounds.
Mr. L. Vernon Reece JONES, son of Mr. Arthur JONES, of the dock accounts
office, Barry Dock, who is articled by Messrs' DOWNING, HANCOCK, solicitors,
Cardiff, has passed the intermediate examination of the Law Society.
3 underground workers, David Henry JENKINS,(33), haulier, Morgan
EDMUNDS,(34), collier, and Gomer GRIFFITHS,(38), haulier, were jointly charged before
Mr. Justice BAILACHE, with stealing a sheep the property of David GRIFFITHS, at
Nantyfflon.- Gomer GRIFFITHS was discharged due to lack of evidence.
Jury found the other prisoners guilty and His Lordship reserved his decision.
During giving evidence Morgan EDMUNDS, 20, Hearts of Oak, Cottage, Caerau,
submitted when trying to shoot a bird, he accidentally shot the sheep.
2 postmen, Stanley Frederick HUNT and William John GOULDER, were charged
with larceny. 1st case against HUNT at Tonypandy, was that he stole a container
with £2.8s in it, he was found guilty and sent to prison for 3 months.
2nd case against GOULDER, that he stole a £5 note from a postal packet,
giving evidence a Bonvilston farmer George Hill, posted a registered letter
containing a £5. note addressed to London.
Being found guilty GOULDER was sentenced to 9 months in prison with hard
labour.
Maurice Samuel ISAAC,(20), pleaded guilty to have stolen a hand-bag
containing money and other articles from Annie PARRY, and a hand-bag from Mary
ROBERTS. He was sentenced to 6 months with hard labour.
William WATKINS,(71), landlord of the Angel Inn Penyrheol, was charged at
Caerphilly with supplying liquor on Sunday Oct.7th, William Douglas
MATTHIAS,(22).of Pontypridd, was charged with aiding and abetting, and Charles
WILCOX,(50), a police-constable of Penyrheol charged with having consumed liquor.
P. C. ZEAL and P. C. STACEY visited the Angel and saw both MATTHIAS and
WILCOX, consuming beer. WILCOX and MATTHIAS each fined £5.
Landlord was discharged but ordered to pay costs.
