It can happen that the name shown on the marriage certificate is different
in spelling from the signed name. I think that is another reason for the
bride's name being indexed twice, with different spellings. Remember that
Pontypridd Register Office will have copied out the original entry, whereas
GRO would scan and print the entry on their records. What is really needed
is someone to look at the register at Glamorgan Archives in Cardiff and
photograph it, if you really want to know what Mary gave her name as.

Subject: [GLA] The Parish Church of Llantrisant
Hi Gerwyn,
I have looked on FMP for this and can only find this in Swansea! Even by
entering one of my ancestors marriage in 1881 I still could not manage to
get into FMP for Llantrisant PRs.
Also searched FamilySearch which is really good and FREE There is a
Matilda Venables born in Llantrisant in 1871, so seemingly this was a
local
family.
Looked at my Llantrisant books [Glam FHS] but of course they stop at 1837
as
does the Marriage Index.
Looked at Family history Search on the Rhondda Cynon Taff website and
found
that Aaron married one of two ladies Mary VENABLES and Mary VENAPPLE, as
you
know.
My conclusion is that there was rather bad handwriting on the part of the
Vicar that day, and it has been transcribed twice because it looked like
VENAPPLE but common knowledge and sense transcribed as VENABLE.
What was her father's name and occupation on the Marriage certificate?
Have
you looked for this family in the census prior to her marriage? Other
than
that ring the Pontypridd Supt Registrar and ask her opinion.
Jill

Hi Eliz.
The Aaron in Swansea is a different Aaron, The Marriage occurred in the
Pontypridd Registration District in the Parish Church of LLantrisant as
per
the Copy of the Marriage Certificate supplied by the Pontypridd Registry
Office but for me there are 2 similar names on the page of the GRO out of
5?
And they are Mary VINEAPPLE and Mary VENABLE, I am wondering if there is
an
error somewhere.ie a double entry in the church records but would that not
show two Aaron REES entries on the GRO?
This marriage was Aaron REES second marriage and his details are correct,
I
can follow him up to the 1881 census and suspect he then went to America
in
1883? I have found a possible entry for a Mary REES and his child from
his
first marriage Sarah Jane REES on a passenger list in 1883, He also had 2
brothers in Roslyn, Kittitas, Washington, USA.
