Why get second-hand when you can get best up-to-date transcription?
Ancestry gets an old version of FreeBMD database for its web site, as I
understand it.
http://www.freebmd.org.uk/
Choose the 'Search' button, Select Births, set the surname to REES and
the first name to John, the district to Pontypridd and the year range to
something like Mar 1875 to Dec 1878
http://www.freebmd.org.uk/progressB.shtml shows that Births transcriptions
for the 1870s are complete (barring the odd entry missed by a transcriber
on a page, usually very rare).
By clicking on the 'spectacles' icon next to each entry you can then
access the scan image used for transcription. If you want to see if any
possible John REES has been left out, revise your search to 'all
districts' and look closely at the pages for quarters where there are no
John REES entries shown for Pontypridd, such as December 1875 and June and
September 1876.
There are only two Dinah EVANS entries in Pontypridd district, in June
quarter 1877 and March quarter 1880.
If you suspect more, search on D* Evans, in case any have been unreadable
or spelled differently.
Jeff
