Just a little more on the song " with my little pick & shovel, I'll be
there"
It is believed to be the oldest football chant started be the miners who
supported Cardiff City around the time of the general strike 1926
It became more popular with the 1927 FA Cup win for Cardiff City.

Subject: [GLA] Tom Farquharson
Tom was Cardiff City's goalkeeper in the 1927 FA Cup final that saw the
bluebirds beat Arsenal.
Tom was Irish and in the War of independence he had republican
sympathies....he was arrested with Seán Lemass in Dublin (who later became
Taoiseach) Tom's father sent him off to Blackwood.
Though it was the norm that Republican's came from a RC background many
protestants were republicans and indeed Tom was a presbyterian.
The following is a link to a song about the Rhondda which is being sold to
help raise £100,000 for a Bronze statue of Fred Keenor (of Roath) as a
tribute to that team of 1927.
