I tried browsing individual pages from 1841 census for Rumney &
Gelligaer on Ancestry, as I do sometimes for my English counties.
Only the descriptions of the enum districts seem to be available for
those records. Is this usual for the Welsh censuses? Is there any
other site I can see the individual pages: looking for 1841 Gelligaer
& Rumney at the mo, but could want to see other parishes & other
years in the future

Hi List,
It's 4 years since I was last here, asking if any fellow listers were
researching the name HUISH. I'm still trying to join all the pieces together
and welcome contact with listers with any connection to the name.
Kind regards,
Jenny

I wonder if it was a temporary fault because I have just tried and can
access individual pages on Ancestry for both Rumney and Gellligaer as well
as the descriptions of the districts.

Thanks Pam. Panic over- images seem to be there now
I was looking for Matilda NEWMAN, born about 1817 Merthyr. She
married Joseph RICHARDSON (born about 1811 DUR) Q1 1840 Abergavenny.
Anyone have any information about her, before I start ploughing
through the census images?

Thanks everyone for your help with the censuses. I am really looking
for info about baptism of Matilda about 1817 Tredegar GLA. Anyone
able to help with this. I live in West Sussex, so can't get to the
NLW. LDS centre in Hyde Park do not seem to have early records for
Tredegar. Shame, Matilda NEWMAN should be reasonably easy to track,
if you are looking in the right parish!

Jan
Tredegar at that time was in Bedwellty parish, Monmouthshire.
http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/MON/Bedwellty/ describes the area.
Tredegar lies near the top of the head of the Sirhowy valley, near the
modern Heads of the Valleys road. Some northern parts of Tredegar ,
including Dukestown and Trefil, were in Llangynidr parish in Breconshire
http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/BRE/Llangynidr/index.html
even though Llangynidr was a long way up and over the mountains.

Thanks for the advice about Tredegar coming under the parish of
Bedwellty in 1817, Jeff.. Your advice is very helpful & probably
explains why my families were in parishes in BRE, GLA & MON. Makes
research difficult though, especially when you are not local & don't
know the area
