Hi,
During an upcoming brief stay in Swansea in early May, my wife and I would like to go to
the location of the old Bryngwyn Farm that my great-great grandfather, Evan Davies, lived
on as a renter in the 1840s and 1850s. Thanks to the wonderful help of some individuals on
this site a few years ago and Google Earth I have been able to locate the farm's
location. It was next to persent-day Gorseinon Garden Village and appears to still be open
land.
We will be staying at the Dragon Hotel in central Swansea and I would appreciate any
suggestions as to how we could get to the Village which appears to be about seven miles
from the hotel. Would a taxi be practical? Is there a local bus route in that area?
I'm hesitate to rent a car as we Americans are used to driving on the
"wrong" side of the road.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Richard Gwynn has replied to you, very fully as he always does, with
details of how to access Bryngwyn Farm.
All I would add is as others have and recommend you hire a car. Diesel
if possible, auto if you've never driven or are unused to driving a
manual- driving on the correct side of the road comes before overcoming
the shock of what to do with the third pedal!!
Make sure you let the Dragon Hotel know that you will be needing to park
a car - spaces are a little limited there.
I would strongly recommend hiring a sat nav - I know the major hire
companies offer this facility - used wisely it will save you a lot of
grief and time
The other thing you MUST remember is to have £10 sterling with you when
you approach the Severn Bridge - it joins Wales and England together. If
you don't have the money to pay the toll, you are escorted back across
the bridge to find some cash to pay on your second attempt - I think the
toll is currently (for a car) around £5.50, but they do give change -
they DO NOT take cards, it's cash only!
As a point of interest there a lot of land in that area is owned by the
Penllergaer Estate - It may be that the Bryngwyn Farm was part of that
estate, if so the following link may be of interest
