Seeking information on Glamorgan family of Hopkin BOWEN born 6 Jan 1839
Cadoxton Juxta Neath who came to Sth Australia, married and had family,
and died there in 1918. His obituary states he was born at Neathvale,
Swansea. His birth certificate gives parents as Morgan BOWEN & Mary,
Farmer @ Coed y Alet.
Does anyone know where the farm Coed y Alet is/was? Also was Neathvale a
village or just a name for a local area?
Is there anyone else researching this family?

Hi Jill
The Cadoxton PRS and 1851 census are on the Lookup Exchange on
<A
HREF="http://members.aol.com/FamChaplin/lookup.html">FamChap... West
Wales Lookup Exch</A> but as I have both I have done the lookup for you :-)
Hopkin Bowen was baptised on 6.1.1839 to Morgan Bowen farmer, & wife Mary, at
Coed yr ALLT.
I can see several other bapts for the same family, also I have found Mary
Bowen , a widow, with several children, including Hopkin aged 12 on the 1851
Cadoxton j Neath census fiche, house called Burrows Lodge.
As other people have both fiche , and to avoid duplication of effort, I will
leave it until you mail the list to say you haven't already got any of it
before I input all the info via the list, a fair bit of it !
I think Neathvale is Cwmnedd aka the Vale of Neath which is the river
Nedd[Neath] valley running up from Neath to Glyn Neath.
On the 1851 census the house called Burrows Lodge is two props away from
Coediarll which is a 900 acre farm with many people working there. I suggest
that is where they may have been working when the children were born. There
are other farms involved too it seems.
It is in the Coedfrank hamlet in the sub district of Llandarcy, butts on to
Skewen village on census so probably between latter and Neath Abbey.
Perhaps John Ball will pinpoint Coedfrank hamlet more accurately for you.
