Hi Barbi, it's a great help to me. It's my family. Everything fits, the
older two sons Thomas and Elias had left home and a younger daughter Mary
had died by 1851. Lydia's maiden name was Hunt and she and several of her
children are buried in Barrow-in-Furness where they migrated and where
there are hundreds of descendants, but only two with the surname Roderick
today. But two of the children remained in the Black Country where
descendants still live. The forename 'Charles' however is an error by the
census taker. The father of this family was named Elias. He was bapt
Blaenavon (Llanover Parish) 12 May 1804 son of Thomas and Ann (_____)
Roderick. He left Blaenavon to work in Tipton, married Lydia Hunt, had
children born there, moved back to Blaenavon where other children were
born, then eventually moved back to Tipton again, where he died. This was
the life of laboring people, moving about as industries waxed and waned.
This Elias was a brother of my grandfather's grandfather William Roderick,
born 15 May 1800, (possibly Glamorganshire or Breconshire) who emigrated to
Danville Pennsylvania with his family in 1851. William's descendants in the
U.S. are about 1/2 the number of Elias' in Barrow and Dudley areas, U.K..
Triplet siblings of Elias and William, (named Jacob, Martha and Mary, and
bapt Blaenavon, Llanover Parish, 10 Sept. 1802), died within a few months
of birth in Blaenavon. Many thanks, indeed, for passing along this
information
Alice I will be writing to you soon. I had correspondence in the 1960s
with your grandfather Mordecai Roderick (affectionately called Mord, and a
very nice man), but I think you have more already on your family than Mord
knew at that time we corresponded.
