Phil,
Fascinating stuff and I thought my rellies were playing hard to get!
Seriously though I mentioned your query at last nights meeting of the
History Society and I was admonished by the senior members (I am the "young
pup" of the Society at 40 years old:-) ) as I have seemingly fed you duff
info, for which I can only apologise.............
I have now been informed there WAS a "Nantymoel Hotel" and is in fact still
going, however very early in it`s life it changed it`s name to the Nantymoel
Inn, or more than likely simply became known as the "Inn" for many years
first. I have only ever known it as the "Dirty Glass" and it is somewhat a
house of ill repute these days.............
This "Inn" is still a thriving concern and could be said to be absolutely
typical of early Valley drinking houses as to all intents and purposes from
the outside it looks like a terraced house with a pub sign hanging on the
wall!!

Hi Huw
confusion!!! We are talking about my gt gt grandfather here! He has spent
the last 2 years confusing me.
He was registered on his birth cert as Edward Williams in 1850. In the 51
and 61 census he is down as Daniel. On his marriage cert of 1878 he is
shown
as Edward Daniel Williams. By the 81 census he has reverted to Daniel
and
by
the 91 he is plain Edward Williams! I look forward to finding out
what he
is
calling himself on the 1901.
The info I have on the hotel comes from his daughter Lily's birth cert.
Her
birth was registered in March 1881
(sorry, did I say Lily, make that EDITH Lily - following family tradition
she only became plain Lily on the 1881 census a month or so later causing
me
to spend an inordinate amount of time fruitlessly searching for a
birth
cert
under Lily when I should have been looking for an Edith)
The place of birth and residence on her birth cert states "Nantymoel Hotel
Llandyfodog".
It is certainly not beyond the realms of possibility (in fact it is highly
probable) that when asked where born her father mumbled Nantymoel, (the)
Hotel.
Anyhow, he probably took over the Hotel in late 1879 early 80 and by the
time of the census he has lost it (something of a habit) and is lodging in
Llangeinor where he gives Lily's birthplace as Nantymoel. So if the court
Colman is the only hotel this must be it.
I would really appreciate the chance to see a photo of this Hotel and any
other info on it.
Many thanks Huw

family
historians by slapping a Parry to the front of his WIlliams!)
