Hi Allen,
To pick up on the points raised by both Allen amd Gareth, a lot
of the chapels also produced "centenary" books of varying descriptions,
which were mainly concerned with the history of their own chapel, but they
can also give "potted" histories of many of it`s elder statesmen of the
chapel and you`ll even get a good chance of a photo.............
Based on the info from the Valley where I live, the 1920`s was a very good
time for these histories and another very good source for both histories of
the individual chapels and it`s deacons/ministers is the bi-annual Baptist
meeting which seemingly moved about the South Wales area. In 1923 they held
the meeting in Ogmore Vale and produced a 100+ page booklet with a vast
wealth of information, even down to where (and with whom) all the Baptist
Ministers were staying in the Valley and surrounding area. (Though our copy
has the last 3 pages missing)
It is also packed full of contempary photographs of many deacons/ministers
of the that era. A bonus for us in the Local History Society is the
publication is chock full of adverts from the prominant businesses of the
area for 1923...........
