I think Pamela probably intended this to go to the list. Because of the way I've set
up my e-mail preferences, she has clearly experienced the reverse of Anne's recent
problem!

> No his title was not Lord lewis Merthyr. Lewis was his surname before he
was enobled, but it did not form part of his title - he was Lord Merthyr.
However, one of his collieries was the Lewis Merthyr at Trehafod (now the
Rhondda Heritage Centre) so maybe (this is just speculation on my part)
people might have referred to him as "Lord Leiws Merthyr".
> The first Lord Merthyr, William Thomas LEWIS, was born in 1837, the eldest
son of Thomas William LEWIS of Abercanaid House, Merthyr Tydfil. He was
created a Baronet in 1896, and Lord Merthyr in 1911. As another lister has
already said, the 4th Lord Merthyr (T.O.Lewis) has disclaimed the title.
This does not extinguish the barony; subsequent heirs will automatically
inherit it unless they also disclaim.
