Greetings to all.
This is for an ex neighbour of mine.He wants me to look in to his miserable
ancestors [his words!]
Here we go then...............Freda Ruth CHATFIELD born about 1906 at
Reading Berks; died at Aldershot [according to Free BMD;? in
1939, aged 33.
Her Husband whom she married in Cardiff in 1933, was Walter Frederick
WELFOOT,[c.1907-1975]who was born in Cardiff around
1907.
Again,a lookup in the 1911 census would do nicely please.

the Pedigree's these days please, and are they

Subject: Bluebell Inn Carmarthen Road Swansea
I've just seen some e-mails between you and a Rhiann Gwilliam about the
above pub via roots web glamorgan back in 2005.
My great aunt, Miss Kate Davies, ran this pub. She was a well known local
"character" - Kate the Blue. She was a spinster ex-schoolteacher who ran
the pub with the original iron fist in the velvet glove. No swearing or
fighting in her pub!
I believe that this pub and the Red Cow on Carmarthen Road were owned by
the Davies family (and maybe a brewery too) the family folklore tells me
that this was very usual in those days as her father believed, like other
brewers of the time, that women could be trusted not to drink and,
therefore, were not at risk of alcoholism. My understanding is that most,
if not all, pubs were run by women in Swansea
.I'm not sure of all of the dates when she ran the pub but I know that my
mother lived with her for a while from 1930.
If you've found out more I'd be very pleased to hear about it.
I know the pub / pubs were demolished by Swansea Council as part of the
improvements of the area.
