I'm looking for confirmation on a marriage record for a BARBARA ARNOLD, b.
15 Apr 1820, Aberdare, Glamorganshire, Wales. We think she married a
BENJAMIN EVANS, b. 1818 and the marriage took place in 1843 at Clydey. Her
parents, David and Jennet Jenkins Arnold would have been living but I have
no confirmation that they attended. Any suggestions on how to get
additional information?

Hi Wendy,
I am told locally that the graveyard at Carmel can be visited. I know that headstones are still there and flowers and Christmas wreaths sometimes left. Entrance is from the adjacent lane.

Maureen
Hi Wendy,
Thanks for all this further info...good work.
The children, Benjamin & Elizabeth Bosley as nephew and niece of Eliz.
Bosley (my grt. Grt. Grandmother) on the 1871 Census, should have been
listed as grandson & granddaughter as they are the children of Thomas
Bosley, son of my my grt. Grt. Grandmother, Eliz. Bosley.
I'll have a rummage now and purchase certificates to see who's who and
hopefully sort this out.
Thanks again for all your help, it's wonderful!
Cheers for now

Further to my note that Thomas may have married Ann Harris -- and they then
could still be the ones on the 1861 as per the Trees on Ancestry. Did Thomas
then die in 1861 and Ann marry again? There is a marriage of Ann Boseley 1864
to Osker Launden Walker and here they are in 1871 attached with a Mary
Boseley Walker as daughter. I think 2 of the children of the 1861Benjamin
and Elizabeth are down as nephew and niece of an Elizabeth Boseley in the
1871.And in 1881 Osker and Ann have moved to Gloucestershire attached. They
are back in Glamorgan by 1891 and by 1901 he is a widower. He is also on the
1911 attached and he died 1915. There is a tree on ancestry for him.
Wendy
I have a marriage for Thomas Bosley b 1831 in Hirwaun Glamorgan, a Draper of
High Street,
Son of James Bosley, a Carrier & Elizabeth Jenkins (my maternal grt
grandparents)
He married Ellen Evans of Hirwaun on 20 January 1853 in Merthyr Tydfil (I
have Marriage Certificate) - her father Benjamin Evans, Inn Keeper. They had
a son, Benjamin Evans Bosley in Oct 1853 and he is written in our family
bible pages from that time as the son of Thomas Bosley.
I cannot find them as a couple in the 1861 Census
There are several trees on ancestry who have him as being married to Ann
Lewis and in the 1861 Census there is a Thomas Boseley, wife Ann, living in
Williams Row, he is a Railway Porter.
I've also found an Ellen Evans death in 1859 - BOSLEY Ellen Merthyr T
11a 245
I thought perhaps Ellen had died and Thomas had remarried but I can't find a
Thomas Bosley marrying an Ann Lewis between 1854 and 1861.
Is there someone out there who can look in the parish records or is related
to Ellen Evans. Or perhaps someone clever can find them on the 1861 Census.
I've tried Ancestry and FamilySearch.org to no avail.
Any help or advice welcome.
Thanks,
Marcelle

Hi Wendy,
A quick search on Google produced this link to the recent sale of the Chapel as a home. The first picture shows the graves and headstones still in place. Unfortunately I don't have a date for the photograph, but it looks fairly recent.

Hi List.
Does anybody have access to the CD produced by GFHS of the burials in
Maesteg Town cemetery if so can they check if the above is buried there she
does not appear to have been buried with her husband in Llangynwyd parish
church. The entry in 1898 on the GRO index looks a good bet?
Thanks
Gerwyn
Hi Jill
No, the marriage isn't anywhere that I can see. I'm just presuming that the
marriage certificate I do have, in which he marries Ellen Evans, results in
the child, Benjamin E Bosley as written in family bible. The actual marriage
is not written in the bible only the birth of the child.
As Ellen disappears after that, I'm assuming she has died and Thomas has
remarried by the time of the 1861 Census but I cannot find a marriage for
Thomas and Ann Lewis which is the name on several Trees online. Mind you
those same trees have my grt grt grandfather as marrying & having several
children in America, all the while appearing in every Census in Merthyr from
1841 to 1861!!!
I'd appreciate any further help re a second marriage for Thomas although it
may be a case of just co-habiting.
Cheers & & thanks

Hi Marcelle,
Thomas is shown aged 9 years with his parents, James and Elizabeth and
siblings on 1841 census.
Remember that in 1841 census, correctly all people over the age of 15 are
shown with ages rounded down. ie a 36 year old is aged between 36 and 40
years. As I said, that was the correct way to do this, but many enumerators
ignored this rule and gave the age that they were told.

There is a marriage of Thomas BOSLEY in December quarter 1860 in Merthyr
Tydfil ( GRO ref 11a 500) and one of the other parties on the page is Ann
HARRIS. She might have been a widow with maiden name LEWIS.
There is a possible marriage in March quarter 1857 in Merthyr Tydfil (GRO
ref 11a 441) of Ann LEWIS and David HARRIS , though that may just be a
coincidence of names. There are a number of other cases in Merthyr
registration district of possible marriages of Ann or Anne LEWIS and a male
HARRIS, in 1856, 1852 and 1846.
This from www.freebmd.org.uk , probably the best free search engine for
registrations of births marriages and deaths in England and Wales from 1837
to the mid-20th century.

Hi List
On the 1861 Census for Merthyr William Jones is living at 10 Penry/Pendry
Street with his parents, David Jones & mother Hannah.
I'm trying to decipher the occupation for William. On his Marriage
Certificate his profession is listed as 'Musician' but on the 1861 Census,
only a few months before his marriage, I cannot read what is stated as his
profession/occupation but it's certainly not musician. Hope some clever
person can understand it.
Also, does anyone know if a beer house or an Inn of some kind was at that
address as his father is listed as a Publican.
Hope someone can help.
Cheers

When Ancestry lets you down, try familysearch.org.
I don't know if it still is the case but it used to be Ancestry
wouldn't search out of Wales if you put a county in the born:
Glamorgan Wales, if you only search with Wales Ancestry will look
everywhere.
But I guess that the All collections button <G> does the job now

Hello List,
Yesterday I found a newspaper article and am trying to see if anyone on this
list just might be researching this family. I have the information on this
family through 1911 census, however the article below brings this family up
to present.
I have the following, daughter of Frank C. Watkins and Maria Jessie Davies
Frances Elaine Miller (nee Watkins) came to USA. Had a daughter Donita
Miller
Valerie Kinch (nee Watkins)
Christine Rees (nee Watkins)
