Hi Susan
I am a little confused. Did you mean they said they were born in Tredegar in the census? If not, where did they say they were born? Have they said the same place in every census? Sometimes they say a different place everytime although they may be near each other.

While my direct ancestral line has Cornishmen arriving to Llanelly in
Brecs, some of the siblings came to Neath Abbey. I hadn't been aware
of the Cornish connection there.
I know that two of them were involved with designing and building
steam locomotives for Merthyr, one of the locos carrying his name
"Charles Jordan".

Lyn and others, I am sorry I was confusing. I am looking for the births
of two children of John and Bridget Grady. They seem to have moved
around between Glamorgan and Monmouthshire, but the 1861 census lists
the two children, John born 1856 and Julia born 1868 both in
Monmouthshire, Tredegar. What I want is the mother, Bridget Grady's)
maiden name which could be either Moran or Shea.
John (father) and Bridget also have two daughters born in Ireland and an
older son Thomas born in Dowlais in 1851 (I found him on my Glamorgan
births CD). After the two children were born in Monmouthshire they
moved back to Dowlais and had two more children, Bridget, born 1860
(curious that she isn't on the 1861 census) and Mary (which is curious
because they already had a daughter Mary).
I guess I could add that, according to the censuses, in 1851 they lived
in Pennydarren, in 1861 they in Bedwelty, but I can't read the name of
the street and in 1871 they lived on Mary St, also in Pennydarren.
I have subscribed to the Monmouthshire list and asked this question.
Thank you for trying to sort through this.

Thanks to those of you with help in getting information about John DAVIES/Sarah HOPKIN. After looking at the image of the marriage information, it seems my ancestor's name was not DAVIES, but DAVID. How interchangeable are those names? My gg-grandmother wrote her last name as DAVIS; on one census list, the family is listed as DAVID; on another census list it shows as DAVIES. Since the name on the marriage information is listed as DAVID, does that mean that really is the name or just how he chose to say it. He did not write his own name, but made a mark after someone else wrote John DAVID.

Dear List:
I have just found a listing on Findmypast.co.uk for the marriage after banns for John DAVID and Sarah HOPKIN in Llangyfelach Parish. The date is 10 Oct 1813. However, I did not find the actual parish register page for this. Under "Notes" it states witnesses named, by consent, personal information. How would I find the actual record that lists the witnesses?

Yvonne,
There is a free option that anyone can log into and it is extremely secure
and is promised to last for centuries. I am talking about
https://familysearch.org/tree/
Family Tree is an updated approach to organizing and preserving your
genealogy online. Family Tree is free, available to everyone, and provides
an easy way to share information, compare research, and go further faster by
working together. In Family Tree you can see what the system already
contains about your ancestors, work with others to fill in missing
information and correct errors, Add sources and explanations to show that
information is accurate, Delete incorrect information and incorrect
relationships and explain why, Find and merge records that are about the
same person, Add photos and stories of your ancestors.
Go to familysearch.org.
Log in (get a free account if necessary)
Click Family Tree
If you need assistance, click Get Help in the upper right corner to find the
User's Guide and many tutorials and FAQs, knowledge articles, in-person
assistance, live chat, toll free phone assistance and email assistance.
It is backed up in not only the Granite Mountain Records Vault, but also in
server farms. Only you can see the living information you enter, but
everyone can see the deceased and work together on their genealogy and find
cousins you never knew existed. It is linked to the world famous family
history library in Salt Lake City. FamilySearch is busy digitizing all of
the records in the vault, having them indexed by volunteers, and putting
them online. The records that are ready can be seen and searched by
clicking Search at the top of familysearch.org near Family Tree.
Have fun!

Hi all
A new series of Coming Home begins on Friday 29 November at 7.30pm on BBC1 Wales.
The celebrities investigating their family history this time are John Rhys-Davies, Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, Shakin' Stevens and John Humphrys.
For those outside Wales, BBC1 Wales is available throughout the UK on satellite.

I am seeking information on Joseph William Evans (1848-1902) who worked at
the Middle Duffryn Mine in Cwmpennar. He married Mary Anne Evans
(1858-1916). The family story is that Joseph was adopted and took "Evans"
name from Mary Anne's family. I am at a loss as to how to find more
information about him. They emigrated to the US in 1879 and settled in
Idaho. Mary Anne's parents, Joshua William Evans (1819-1891) and Hanna
Richards (1819-1901) also emigrated to Idaho. I have been unable to find
more information. Any help would be appreciated.

Pontypridd, whose name is mentioned in this BBC article:

I copied the entry from the register at West Glamorgan Archives this morning
and will forward to Jolynn in the next day or so. There were some unusual
features. John David was listed as a 'yeoman' which indicates a farmer. It
is a term commonly found in English registers but I think the first time I
have seen it in Llangyfelach.
This register should have been digitised and then indexed by Findmypast, so
maybe the image is lurking there labelled as a different parish.

You need to look for Tir-Arthur Row on the link supplied by Huw Daniel to
the 1900 map, other streets are Engine Row and Cornish Row once you find it
keep enlarging it by pressing the + button and it will take you to the
present day map.

That is a great idea Yvonne, using YouTube. Anything you need to do, it
seems the answer lies there. Be careful that the video you watch is on
HTML5 as that is what you should use now and EW4 supports this. Have fun,
and if you have any questions, then do ask.
My best wishes, Jill

Hi,
Thanks to everyone who answered my query, your help is much appreciated, and
I'll probably go with one or two of the suggestions in the short term. My
ultimate goal is to have a web page similar to that of Jill Muir.
Thanks Jill for the info, MSExpression 4 looks promising and although I have
little experience with html there are tutorials available on youtube which
I've found so that should help, hopefully, thought I'd add that in case
anyone else was interested.
Thanks again,
Yvonne Hills :)

The Transcription page on FMP says that it is from the Glamorgan Marriage
Index pre-1837 and that the data was provided by the Glamorgan Family
History Society - I would try contacting them - their website is
www.glamfhs.org

Hi Evelyn,
you could also try the 1900 map overlaid with the most
recent Ordnance survey version at:
