Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Hello Patricia,
In a short space of time, you have asked this question several times, on
this List. It seems no one knows much about your Parker family on the
Glamorgan List. Have you thought about researching their careers at The
National Archives?
There are several books too that you may find would help you. Scroll to the
bottom of this page.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sir_William_Parker,_1st_Baronet,_of_Shenstone
Have you contacted the West Glamorgan Archive Service? Have you looked at
online newspapers? Have you traced his career as a Customs & Excise
Officer? Knowing the date he started on this career would enable you to
know when he retired from the Navy.
Have you thought of contacting the Society of Genealogists?
This is a well documented family and presumably those who have researched
this earlier would have hit the same brick wall as you have.
http://www3.sympatico.ca/dljordan/parker-edwards.htm
It may well be that he grew away from his family if they were of humble
stock, and maybe that is why he cannot be found as yet. ;-))
Best of luck in your research,
Cheers, Jill
had the death cert of my G.G. Grandfather THOMAS WILLIAMS of WAVERLEY STREET
CLYDACH 5 Feb 1908 which now presents another mystery ( as Usual ) it states
that a nephew EDWARD JONES was present at the death . Help who is Edward
Please someone claim him and tell me who he is do u have him on your tree?
Thanks Althea
Can anyone help me find my 3rd times great grandfather, William Parker?
He would have been born about 1780 as his son, Robert Menzies Parker, my
2nd times great grandfather, was born in St Mary, Swansea, Glamorgan.
On Robert's baptism record, 1806, his father is given as William Parker,
Lieutenant, Royal Navy. No other information.
I am trying to find out where William came from, his wife's name and his
parents too. As he was a naval man he most probably moved around. Does he
come from Wales or Devon or somewhere else? He may have died before the
official census' started. He is on record that he was William Parker,
Admiral (deceased) on the last marriage certificate of his son Robert
Menzies Parker in 1878.
I have searched the Ancestry records and whereas there is plenty of
information on Robert Menzies Parker, his father and mother are absent on
people's searches.
I hope someone can help.

Jill,
That IS my Evan, and I have seen several trees with Jane, but there is no
proof for it. And with so many David's and Evan's I haven't tagged that one
yet. Where is Llangwyryfon? :) and who's tree did you look at.
Thanks

Hello Kelli,
I found a couple of the census and then worked out the marriage date which I
put into my search data on ancestry and found a family tree with the
marriage certificate of Evan Davies
[ Parents David and Jane] and Mary Catherine Edwards [Parents William and
Barbara] . I assume this is not your tree?
Evan Davies
Birth abt 1825 in Llangwyryfon, Cardiganshire, Wales,
Death 7 Sep 1880 in Treorchy, Glamorgan, Wales
He married Mary Catherine Edwards in 1853 in Aberdare, Glamorgan and then
they moved to Ystradyfodwg, which is now more of less the modern Rhondda
Valleys.
So your Welsh Naming pattern was not used to discover Evan's mother's name.
Cheers, Jill

Okay...can you help me with a puzzle. I need to find the name of a wife and
mother. I have a ggg grandfather. His name is Evan. HIS father is David.
Evan is married to Mary. Mary's father is William and Mary's mother is
Barbara.
Evan and Mary have six children.
Oldest son ... David (Evan's father)
2nd child, Oldest Daughter ... Barbara (Mary's mother)
so far so good :)
3rd child, 2nd son... Titus... no idea but the name comes on down the family
4th child 2nd daughter ... Elizabeth ... ???
5th child 3rd son ... William (Mary's father)
6th child 3rd daughter ... Rachel ...???
.
so... with Titus coming in there in the middle and William coming later, did
they break the pattern with the girls too? Would Evan's mother's name be
Elisabeth, or Rachel or maybe neither? I have no siblings or mother's name
for Evan, so I can't find the family. I'm sure you know how many David
Davies (farmer) with a son named Evan Davies (collier) there was in the mid
1800's in Wales. I also think Evan moved to Glamorgan for the mining so
haven't been able to follow church records in the parish. He was married
there and lived and died in Glamorgan so I can come forward, but have not
been able to go back. The other problem is where he was born. One census
gives Llandeilo, Cardiganshire, Wales. My study says Llandeilo is not in
Cardigan but in Carmarthine.
There....maybe someone out there has an idea for me.
Thanks

As I was named after my Auntie Vera's "Dog."
That is to say,my first name of "Robert".
No wonder my mum called me by my second name of "Graham" 'eh?
The Dog by the way,was a small spaniel.Named Robert.

Thanks

Greetings, all.
There does not appear to be a set pattern for naming in my families, as
well. There are a lot of Hughs, Thomases, Eliases, Samuels, Jenkins... and
so on. Perhaps whomever was in good graces at the time, with whichever
family. I know that there were common names in both sides of families, and
thus you could try to make EVERYONE happy. Well, perhaps not.
This seems to be the first ecological use of the phrase "recycle and reuse."
Last week someone made a statement about only Christian names and surnames
being in use and permissible. They claimed that middle names were
"prohibited". Can any shed any light as to whether this was a legal
prohibition, or simply a local custom? Is there a factual basis in this?

Jill,
That IS my Evan, and I have seen several trees with Jane, but there is no
proof for it. And with so many David's and Evan's I haven't tagged that one
yet. Where is Llangwyryfon? :) and who's tree did you look at.

My family back in Cornwall pre-1800 followed a similar pattern.
Of course it meant that each of a group of brothers would name his
eldest son the same - what joy trying to sort out which is which!
Additionally, should a child bearing one of these names die very
young, the name was re-used for a next child.

Aletha,
In my own ancestry, there does not appear to be a set pattern.
I have looked at ancestors from the three counties of Dyfed.
The eldest son was named after one of his Grandparents in most cases. Sometimes Paternal, sometimes Maternal.
Second son again in most cases named after a Grandparent.
The same is true in most cases for 1st and 2nd Born daughters.
>From 1700 onwards, without exception, by ancestors were non-conformists, and there are very few baptism records available.
Where the pattern is not followed, there is also a Gap in the Birth dates of known children, which suggests that either I have not found them all, or they had died in infancy, and another child, was then given the same name.
Best wishes,
Achwr

Hi !
My grandfather, Archibald Thomas Wood, was also in India at this time at the
ammunitons factory in Kirkee, where they made Dum-Dum bullets. Retired in
1929.
I think he probably participated in the last Anglo-Afghani war, coz he said
that Europeans could never beat the Afghanis on their own territory!
Also have a family clock:
"Presented to A.T.Wood, Esq.
Officers and Staff, Eurpean and Indian
Of the Ammunition factory, Kirkee
As a mark of esteem of his retirement from Government service
May, 1929.
So your great-grandfather and my grandfather may have been in India at the
same time ?
Actually, my mother's family, the Leahys, arrived in India with John Leahy,
surgeon, around 1840.
The Woods, a bit later with William King Wood, from Scotland.
So our ancestors probably lived around the same time in India!
Wot's yor history?
Regards
didi
Yep I know Raynor, it sometimes works out in earlier families, but not
always then.
Cheers, Jill

Hello,
Well, I would look for a Titus Davies (of Evan's or David's generation)--and see if you can find a connection to your Evan. I know, straws, but we do what we have to! Pob lwc!

Thanks
Kelli
