Hello,
I received a nice OS map of Swansea and Llanelli from Godfrey the other day, but am looking for something more detailed. Godfrey says they don't have anything else.
Does anyone know where they have maps that show even more detail (very large scale) of the White Rock Works area/Cnap Coch (in Swansea), and Llanelli, and Pontarddulais?
Someone sent me a xerox of a part of one that showed farms and buildings in Pontarddulais, but I have no idea what map it was from or where I can find maps with that much detail.
Older maps would be nice, but I'd even take modern ones with more detail.
Thank you.
Mona Everett
Merry Christmas all.
Some time back, a number of moons ago I sought help in tracking details of
my Gt GT Grandfather George GALLOWAY who moved to the area in around 1857 to
be a Farm Bailiff. Family documents implied he was Farm Bailiff at
Cwmsaerbren.
Other researchers on the forum informed me of the owners of the farm and
also who the Farm Bailiffs were. The DAVID family.
This Christmas I was given a copy of a research document written by a cousin
in 1979 from research he carried out in the 60's & 70's including comments
from family memebrs.
In the document it includes a reference to a marriage of one of George's
daughters, Ellen (known as Nell or Nellie), who in Qtr June 1890 married a
William DAVID.
Ever looking for links I was wondering if this William was linked to the
known William & Catherine DAVID, as I wouldn't have thought the family name
was that common in the area. Or was it?
I know they had two sons Donald DAVID, who in July 1966 was retired and
living in Bailey Street, Pentre; the other being Caradock Galloway DAVID,
known as "Crad".
Any info greatfully received.
Best wishes for everyones research in the coming New Year.
Kerry
Dear Frank
Sorry I was a bit slow responding.
There is quite a bit of information concerning the O'NEILL family in
the Glamorgan Family History Society indexes to the registers of St
Illtyd's RC Church, Dowlais. The indexes may be purchased from GFHS.
Photocopies of the original registers (which will show godparents and
may show actual birthdates) are available in the Merthyr Tydfil
Library.
St Illtyd's registers (GFHS indexes)
Marriage:
1881 Nov 27 John O'Neil, son of Eugene, m Julia Crinmings daur of James
Baptisms of children of John O'Neil/O'Neill and Julia
Crimmings/Crimmins:
Eugene bp 27 Aug 1882
James bp 19 Jan 1884
Johanna bp 11 Feb 1886
Dennis bp 6 Jul 1887
John bp 8 Sep 1889
Patrick bp 14 Jan 1891
Julia bp 18 Sep 1892
Eugene bp 10 Jun 1894
Margaret bp 3 May 1896
Mary bp 6 Nov 1898
Burial (plausibly but not certainly from this family):
Eugene O'Neil, age 2, 14 Apr 1885, 4 Back Lewis St
(this register ends 1890)
The data fit well the information already provided by Bridget and
Cecil. It seems they had ten children in eighteen years of marriage. At
least eight survived to 1901. The first Eugene probably died aged two;
James may also have died or simply left home.
Julia's maiden name was "Crimmings" (I've seen this name in Ireland as
Cremin, Cremeen etc).
Best wishes,
Sean

I'm hoping someone can help me here. My grandmother, Dinah Davies, was born
in Llanguicke/Ystalyfera around 1876. I've contacted the relevant register
offices but they have been unable to find her. Her father, David Davies, was
born in Llanfynydd, Carmarthenshire and her mother, Mary Ann, in Ystrad,
Brecon. Any advice on where I can look? Unfortunately, I live in North
Yorkshire, and the only way I'll be able to visit any offices personally, would be
on holiday. Thank you.

Thank you for your quick reply. This probably is Daniel Mack. His age on the death certificate is 60 and on the 1881 census, he is living 8 Glandwr Terrace, Llwynypia(?), Ystradyfodwg and enumerated as David. His wife and children were enumerated correctly so I am quite sure it is the right family. I also know there weren't very many with the Mack surname at that time.
Happy Holidays,

Could this be Daniel MACK and has been mis-subscribed.
He was the 8th burial in Trealaw.

Hi all,
Previous attepmt got bounced for being cced to too many lists <blush>
Anyway, just a quick note to wish you all a Merry Christmas & a Happy
New Year. Thank you for all your help over the year in finding "lost"
relatives and for the interesting conversations, even if you didn't
realise I was here, due to my lurking tendencies.

Hi to everyone. Can someone help me please. I have a GRO reference for my
great, great grandfather: Jame Barry (11a/ 694). I only know the married
name of his wife and entered simply that and the correspomding date of
James'wedding. I received a list of possible candidates and two of these
seem to be a possibility. However, only on of the 2 possibilities has
reference numers that correspond with James Bary's data. Do I assume that
this marriage data is a match?

Hello Karen, Thankyou so much for your help. That is a real help. I am fairly sure now that it was David Francis GRIFFITH going by that entry. I really appreciate your help and you have taught me a new way to check for the future. Have a great Christmas. Regards Beverley
Dear Listers:
First, I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I greatly appreciate all the help and advice I have received from this list in my search for my McNamara / Mack family in Wales.
Would SKS who has access to the Trealaw Cemetery records do a lookup for Daniel Mack or possibly McNamara, date of death: 4 May 1881 at Yniscynon Inn, Trealaw, cause of death: disease of the heart. I am trying to determine if this is my great-grandfather but the death certificate was verified by George Overton, the Glamorgan County coroner and no other family information was given that would verify him as my great-grandfather. The burial was probably after the 7 May 1881 as on this date an inquest into Daniel's death was held.
Sincerely,
Pam (Mack) Nixon

Hello, I wonder if any one can help me solve this problem. I have an Edit Mable ADLAM born 1889 in Warminster. She moved with her family to Glamorgan in 1891 and married in Pontypridd in 1907. I have 2 names as possible husbands but don't know which one it is. The possibilities are David John EVANS or David Francis GRIFFITHS. If any one has either of these gentlemen on their tree and they are married to an Edith Mable ADLAM I would love to hear from you or any one else who could help. Many thanks Beverley
Would someone be able to help me with the following research please?
I am searching for the mother of John Rees, my great grandfather.
* His marriage cert.(to Sarah Barry of 23, Bridge St.Greenhill,
Swansea, aged 20), dated Jan.25th 1885, gives his address as, 175,
Carmarthen Rd. Swansea. His age at the time was 22, giving a birth year of
1863
* His father was Thomas Rees.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Diolch a Nadolig LLawen. Thanks and a Merry Christmas.

Hi Beverly, I don't know if this helps but in the Free BMD I put in Griffiths for surname with mother's surname Adlam and I got this for Pontypridd, March 1914
GRIFFITHS Lilian M Adlam Pontypridd 11a 1060
Hope this helps,
Karen

I have a William JONES, son of William JONES, born Merthyr Tydfil August 1850 in my family tree. The problem is that I can't find any of the family in the 1861 census. William Jones married Elizabeth Ballard in December 1849. William, their eldest son, was born in Gellyfailog, Merthyr Tydfil. Rachel (my gt.grandmother) was born in March 1855 at Trehir, Merthyr Tydfil. Edmund was born in October 1857 when they were still living at Trehir. By the time of the 1871 census, Rachel and Edmund were living in Bedlinog with their mother and stepfather, Elizabeth and Samuel Phillips, but I can't find any of them in 1861. I can't find out whether either William Jones died during this time because the name is so common. Does this help?
