Hello list
I've been sorting through my photos and came across some that I took during
a visit to Oxwich Bay, Gower. I took a few photos of St. Illtyd church and
9 of gravestones with the ACE surname. This name is not on my tree, but
there seemed to be many in the church graveyard with this name, so I just
snapped away. I also took one with the name of Silveness CIBBS, which I
thought was a very unusual name.
If anyone is interested in any of these photos, let me know and I will email
them to you.
Regards
Andrea

the software 'who do you think you are family tree maker' by GSP based on BBC
program allows you to sight sources, add memos, photos etc
backing up is not a problem it automaticly makes a backup copy on the hard
drive and you can always copy to a disc/usb for extra security
It is good for generating family tree print outs, allows you to easily search
the members of the tree and generate/import Gedcom files etc
I have found it very very good

Hi Sandra,
I'm from a Reynolds family - The Samuel name has been passed down after
each generation. I don't know if there is a connection?? My bunch
started life in Devon, and eventually moved to Cardiff and other parts
of Glamorgan. If you have gone further and the Samuel name keeps rearing
his head please drop me a line off list and I may be able to help
further back. I say off list as it would cover Cornwall not Glamorgan.
Regards
Jane ( W.Auss)
Dear Sean, Bonnie & Richard,
Throw me into this mix also. My great-grandmother was Catherine Donovan/McCarthy married to Daniel MacNamara. On the 1871 census, they are living in Tirphil, Glamorgan just over the county border from New Tredegar, Monmouth. I find them in the Tirphil / New Tredegar area through the 1891 census. Catherine was born about 1835 Skibbereen, County Cork and Daniel was born abt 1821-1835 Bandon, County Cork. I suspect Catherine and Daniel married in Wales. They had 10 children from 1854 - 1878. As of the 1881 census, my great-grandfather, Daniel had changed his surname from MacNamara to Mack. On the children's baptismal records, Catherine lists her maiden as Donovan and on the two civil birth records I have she is nee McCarthy. Just sent to the GRO for four more of the children's birth certs to see which maiden she uses on them. One more note, her first child was a girl and was baptised Honora but went by Johanna all her life. I suspect Catherine's mother may
have been Johanna or Honora Donovan married to a McCarthy. Daughter, Johanna MacNamara came to the States in 1871, married John Joseph Downey and ended up in Fort Pitt, Collier Twp, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.

Hi Ann,
The short answer is yes, all the children will have been
entered into the relevant admission records for the Primary/Secondary
that they attended.....
Whilst these admission records can contain quite a lot of useful data on
the child/parents, it does depend on the diligence (and handwriting
quality) of the schools head teacher.
I can only speak from our expereince of the many schools in the Ogmore
Valley, but these admission books were kept from 1870 onwards though
will contain some data from pre1870 depending on when the child joined
the school.
In our case the vast majority of the books were still in the schools
(with some missing volumes due to to schools amalgamating over the
years) and whilst we were given full access, (many were about to be
consigned to the bin!!) I believe you`ll find that many of these records
have been destroyed over the years......
As you`ve already approached the GRO, your next course I would suggest
would be to contact the individual schools concerned to see if they
still have them, or see if a Local History Society has, as in our case,
scanned the surviving registers for future generations....
Good luck in your search......

Hi Gwyneth,
In my case they are even quicker than you think.
I have received all the answers to your question, but I did not receive the
original mail with the question in.
Probably still on the way.

Hi,
I have an 1846 marriage certificate, between a William Morgan and a Mary
Jones, from the Tabernacle Chapel, Merthyr Tydfil. It states that the
ceremony was conducted by the Baptist Connexion(?) The Baptist is quite
legible but the second word I am only sure that it ends in exion and begins
with Co.
Does anyone know if there are any parish records available for this chapel
or monumental inscriptions and is it still called the Tabernacle Chapel or
does it go by another name now? The minister's name was B. Williams.
Any help much appreciated

Hi Gwyn
I have started using the latest version of FTM after using PAF for several years the one advantage I see with FTM is that you can now send your reports in other formats other than Gedcom.
This enables other family members who are computer users but who do not have a suitable Gedcom programme to view, I used this method to send my reports to new found relatives in Pennsylvania and Florida.

Sorry that I haven't been around for a while, work has taken a lot of
attention lately - if they didn't pay me I wouldn't do it.......
As it is the time for making Christmas lists I was wondering if any list
members have any recommendations for a good software package for
constructing family tree infromation? My files are getting cumbersome and
the family tree I have constructed for myself on the computer is getting a
bit out of hand.
Thanks in advance,

Hi list, please can someone tell me what the name of the junior school in
Splott Road,Cardiff in the early 1950's was called, or was it just "Splott Road
School" ~Also, has it been rebuilt elsewhere,or almalgamated with another
school? I am trying to find if the admissions registers for c 1915 have
survived and where they may be if they are still in existance.
Many thanks
Ann

The need to organize genealogical data, and the desire for several
kinds of output (gedcom, trees etc.) suggests using a software
package. This is fine, but I'd like to caution that whatever program
is used that it provides complete opportunity to cite sources and to
add biographical information on individuals well beyond dates and
places of b,m,and d. Not to say, I am organized, but I simply use a
"word" file and basically a modified "register" format for the
content, where at the end, I can include pertinent census, parish,
and other confirming evidence. I also include a few paragraphs at the
end on the history of the search, noting dates and places where I met
relatives or wrote to them for specific information.
Doing it this way permits publication directly from the file (or
distributing it among family members), and can be submitted to the
publisher that way. (I know there is software that approximates
this) You can also include photographs for your own personal
genealogies. I don't see any drawbacks to this approach, other than
one does not have a menu to work from that the software packages
provide. I see more freedom in not being confined to a sometimes
restrictive menu.
I back up a file to an independent drive each time I add to it. And I
leave the back up copy in my office in a fireproof cabinet. Do
software packages permit back up to an independent drive? Another
question: If you have used one software package for years, and find
a new one that is far superior, can one automatically transfer all
the information to the new package? I don't want to worry about all
those things.

To the List.
There must be many on the List who have an Irish connection. I have found the
subject a very useful site in Ireland and it is free.
Just Google CMCR PROJECT HOME PAGE.
When it comes up scroll down to where it says other counties CMCR and click
on.
When that opens up you will see a faint oblong. Just click on message below
and then use the search boxes.
Best wishes to all.

Hi Listers
Thought I would add my DONOVAN as everyone seems to be posting theirs .
My great great grandmother was JULIA DONOVAN born c 1833 Ireland , most
probably Clonakilty , Cork . She married Patrick MADDEN in Ireland about 1852 .
They had four sons born in Ireland then came over to Cardiff c 1863 and had
a daughter in 1864 in Cardiff . The family stayed in Cardiff .
I do not have any other info on Julia Donovan . Anyone have her in their
tree ?

List,
Can anyone tell me if there are any on-line data bases for the above? And
if not where would they be available? I live in Canada so Glamorgan Record
Office etc. is not an option. Any help much appreciated.
