I am curious as to what "iechyd da!" means along with the other Welsh
phrases I have seen.
What is the meaning of "smallbeer stinging nettle beer". Excuse my
ignorance, I am not much of a drinker.

Sarah Ann Elias, my grandmother, in 1879 married Thomas Hopkins. Neath
certificate says she was 25 and her father was John Elias, a deceased
farmer. The 1861 census lists Hugh Elias with niece Sarah age 6 living
in Nantyrallon. Of course, I would like to find something more about
these people, especially John Elias -- birth, parents, marriage. Dear
friends have been very helpful to this novice. However, any further
help, directions or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Tom
I have the Neath 1851 census index fiche and I would say both your John Elias
, brother Hugh and even Thomas Hopkins are all there living quite close to
each other !
Before I spend 20 minutes typing the whole lot in please confirm that this is
info you do not have and also that way no one else will also repeat the whole
thing.
Wait to hear from you then , via both lists please :-)

Hello everyone,
I have just come across a reference to Llanilltyd in one of my family lines
and am not quite sure where it is. For some reason I am thinking it is in
the Llantwit Major area.
Can anyone confirm if this is correct or not?? Thank you for your time.

Hi Sue
Nice to be able to help someone who actually found some missing Davieses for
me !!
Problem is, a few parish churches about Gla and elsewhere named after St
Illtyd.
Parish Registers of Wales has one in BRE, Capel Illtud [Llanilltud], a
separate parish from 1887. About 5 mls east of Crai parish.
Just thought I'd throw that one in for free :-)
Then in Gla there's;
Llanilltud Faerdref [Llantwit Fardre],
Llanilltud Fawr [ Llantwit Major],
Llanilltud Gwyr [ Ilston] , in Gower,
Llanilltud Nedd [ Llantwit juxta Neath], also known as Llanilltud Fach

Hello Jack
Basford is a registration District in Nottinghamshire [not too far from
Derbyshire, if some of the SubDistricts are anthing to go by.] They are:
Arnold, Bulwell, Carlton, Greasley, Ilkeston, Wilford.
If you would like the address of the local Register Office, do get back to
me - Arnold, Bulwell & Carlton adresses are still in Notts [I see that
Ilkeston is in DBY list - no sign of Greasley there though] and I don't
know what has become of the Wilford office. I can give you an address for
any of the other four, though.
Best wishes
Blanche Charles

PS Perhaps you're talking about pre- Civil registration! Still, it gives
you an idea where to be looking.

Vivian: You really struck a chord with the shortbeer. When I was knee
high to a grasshopper I was in charge of collecting the nettles. got
many a sting. That goes back many years.
Blanche and Maureen: Those Welsh cakes freeze very nicely, just don't
forget about them and let them pick up freezer burn. Gordon
Hello Maureen
Yes, but there are only two of us - and trying not to pack on the extra
pounds! [I have a horrible feeling that these are going to prove rather
"more-ish"!!]
I'll let you know how they go when I make them - I'm just going to print
out Helen's recipe as well. If I put on too much extra weight I'll know
why!!
Thanks Helen, Gareth & Tom for the recipes!!
Best wishes

Hello Sue,
I have alisting of Llanilltyd form Bartholamew's Survey Gazateer.
It is in Breconshire, a hamlet in the parish of Libanus.
I checked on Street maps and Libanus is there.
Hope this helps.

Hello all,
Happend to have a look at the updated IGI (updated Addendium) the other
night and found an EVAN WILLIAMS who is most likely my Ggrandfathers
brother. He is listed as being born in HIRWAUN 28-Dec-1845. Parents Howell
and Elizabeth.
The problem, there is no submitters information available and the film is
"restricted", so I cannot even order it in to have a look.
I am therefore, posting this to the group in hope that this might be
belonging to one of you, or you might have come across someone who had an
enquiry about him..
A long shot I know, but unless you try..... :-) Thank you in advance for
any assistance.

Did Elizabeth VAUGHAN have any brothers?
My great-grandfather was John VAUGHAN, married to Sara BOW, and born about the
