Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
My family lived at VICTORIA STREET, DOWLAIS, if anyone has any
connection or knowledge of them, or this street, I'd be delighted to
hear from them!
Mary Jane LEWIS was born in Victoria St, 1862, daughter of William
LEWIS and Margaret THOMAS, both from Llandovery.
MJ married Edwin WITHERS (from Huntspill, Som) in 1883 then their
address was Overton St.
My grandma Esther Ann WITHERS was born Victoria St. in 1889.
One of their descendants was Janice REGAN who married a CLIFF JONES
from Dowlais area, last known of working at Hull Uni - but I've lost
their address and can't trace them. I believe Janice has family
photos so I'd love to find her!

I am not aware of any such thing and if there is I don't like your
chances of being confident that your people are related to those shown.
For example, there were 273 individuals with the Phillips' surname in
Aberdare alone in the 1851 census. As I recall, a few years ago there
were about five pages of Phillips in the local (Glamorganshire?)
telephone directory.

Hi Bill,
I'm looking for William and Sarah's parents'. I'm working on finding
paper work on William. I contacted the Genealogical Society of Northeast Pa.
I haven't heard from them yet.
What area are you referring to? I live in Northampton county Pa. Your
wife lives in Lackawanna? I've only been there once.
Thanks

Hi Malcolm
30 of the 37 birth/baptism entries in the BVRI CDs for BIBB are from WORC,
and 11 of the 19 marriages. Earliest 1668. Hope this helps.

Howdy Bowen Cousins --
My wife (Pamela Bowen Conroy) has relatives linked to sailing from
Swansea, Wales in 1639. Family was that of Richard and Ann Bowen with
children. Oldest son, George Bowen, stayed in Wales and took over the
family home. We are planning a trip to Wales the end of March and seek
any available help in planning how to search out the old homestead.
Thanks.

Hi Pat
A book well worth reading if you are interested in The Royal Engineers is
"REQUIEM FOR WILL"
It is the diary of WILLIAM FISHER of the Royal Engineers during WW1 from 1915
to 1919.
It starts off with letters written to his cousin regarding the Senghenydd pit
disaster 1913.
He was one of the men who recovered the bodies from the pit.

Howdy Folks,
Do one of you kind folks have a copy of Phillips' Glamorganshire
Pedigrees or can tell me where I can access one? I am searching for
data on my Stradling ancestors who lived in St. Donats.
Also searching for:
Milford in York, Devon and Kent
Hinton/De Hynton/Hyntonin Northampton, Berks and Wiltshire
De Eydon/Eydon in Northamptonshire
Palmer in Susex
Stradling in Glamorganshire
Goddard in Oxenham
Regards,
Harold Milford
Hi All,
I've just been contacted by Ben BIBB, who is wondering if his name and mine (BEBB) are variants from a common root. I've not seen BIBB in Wales (but then I haven't looked!). Ben's family have been in Virginia since early 17th century, but they have a possible Welsh origin.
I wonder if anyone living in Wales or bordering areas who has come across the name (or would be willing to have a quick look in the local phone book) would be kind enough to get back to me, so I can get an idea of the distribution and suggest where he might start looking.
Many thanks,
Malcolm

My husband's family were all miners. They lived in a succession of houses
they built themselves, and most of the neighbours did the same. They were
from Treorchy. We have just sold, for the ludicrously small sum of £9000,
the three-bedroom stone house in Prospect Place, Treorchy which my
mother-in-law, Bessie Daniels, lived in for 70 years and which was hand-hewn
by her grandfather. Before that they lived in another house they built
themselves elsewhere in Treorchy.

history library that when people move to the states especiaaly in the early
years the name alot of times did get changed, he might try the referance

tell you the different spellings for a name and their origin.

in mountain ash there were a lot of coal mines known as the pits, in cwmpennar
there are three rows of houses called low, middle and high rows, for some
unknown reason i thought they would be council propertys, it was brought to my
attention i was proberbly wrong built by the mines for the miners, question;
when were they built and who would have the tenant records, since they are not
on 1861 cencus for mountain ash, were they built after, does any one know

Hi Marita
You refer to just Carmarthen in the Glamlist posting but it
is in fact the parish of Llannon in the county of Carmarthenshire[CMN], a
source of frequent confusion since there is also a parish called Carmarthen
:-)
Although no longer offered on the Lookup Exchange for lookups I do have a
database of Llannon marriages purchased from SWGI and the actual index
entry is as
follows;
1779 10/12 Thomas PEREGRINDE? Llangyfelach Mary DAVID married in Llanon.
I read that to say that he came from Llangyfelach in Gla but as there is no
stated parish for her then it is implied she was from Llannon , which is why
they married there presumably.
Llangyfelach and Llannon parishes are not that far apart despite being on
opposite sides of the county line, and of course, Llangyfelach butts on to
Swansea,St Mary parish too.
So, no real problem with a birth in Swansea, and it would be Swansea, St
Marys
parish probably although I see from Parish Regs of Wales that St Johns
*may*
have had registers starting c 1760.
Not sure where the "both from Swansea" info comes from, or her middle name,
presumably not the actual PR entry ? Would be interested in knowing that.
BTW, I see from the Gla FHS pre 1837 marriage fiche that there are quite a
few Peregrin/Peregrine/Pergrin male entries with
Llangyfelach/Swansea/Loughor/Cadoxton links.
Might be worth while you buying
the fiche to perhaps help you establish a family grouping ? There are bound
to be several female entries too. The ones I noticed were in the approx
period 1770-1830.
The Gla FHS website has details of fiche for sale, and membership,it is on
http://members.aol.com/gfhsoc/
Also, the Llangyfelach PRs are on the Gla page of the Lookup Exchange, see
below , and the LE parish entry is hotlinked to the corresponding parish
entry on the equally "well endowed" Genuki Glamorgan pages.
And when following up Mary's line in Llannon perhaps you should check out
the Dyfed FHS website too, on
http://www.westwales.co.uk/dfhs/dfhs.htm
In a spirit of fairness, and it is seasonal, I should say that the SWGI I
mention above is the South Wales Genealogy Index , a commercial site, which
is on
http://members.aol.com/SWalesIdx/
