Hello Everyone;
I am presently teaching a Cinema History course and read about a German film call Student
of Prague (1913, Stellan Rye). The writer (autorefilm) was Hanns Heinz Ewers, the
principal actor was Paul Wegener, and director was Stellan Rye. This film is noted for its
fabulous photography effects; furthermore the fantasy aspect of the film was also a trait
of German cinema which climaxed and developed into the German Expressionist period of
1920. Has anyone ever seen this silent movie in its entirety? I just watched a very short
clip of it on YouTube. Would anyone like to explain how prevalent or influential was the
German culture during that period in comparison with other cultures in the region. It
seems this film was made specifically for the German audience.
Moses
