Along these lines. There is a book, I believe it is "Germans to the
Mid-West". It is about the Frank and Kerler families and their travels from
Germany to parts of Michigan and Greenfield, Wisconsin where they settled.
Lots of good stories and letters. I was really interesed in it when I read
it since they settled near my home here.
They went up the Hudson and through the Erie Canal, up the Great Lakes and
to Milwaukee. There are may interesting stories about the members of the
family including one son who was in Algiers in the French Legon back in the
