I don't know when any of the Czech records will be copied but the LDS church is moving
all cameras away from microfilm to digital. There are faster and produce sharper images
and when put on computer disks can be referenced immediately. Question, how soon? This I
don't know. I trace roots back to Bohemia and would love to be able to see records
for them on the internet.

Subject: [GERMAN-BOHEMIAN] LDS FHL computer operations
I am glad to hear about the opening of the new center at Ashburn, Va. I
cannot attend but there is one question that I wish someone would ask and report
back to the list.
I belong to a number of lists and there has been considerable speculation
recently about the extent to which LDS is filming (or planning to film)
records in the Czech Republic. Some say that it is already happening, while others
say that it is still in the negotiation stage. Also, there is much speculation
as to how soon the information will be available after it is obtained by LDS
and whether it will be available on microfilm or digitized.
Receiving some reliable information directly from LDS personnel would of
interest to many of us who struggling to obtain information about our German
and/or Czech ancestors in the Czech Republic.
I hope that someone who attends this meeting will accept this challenge
and will report back to the list.
Thanks in advance.
