I hit a roadblock first saying I had to join Yahoo and then that I needed
web access for
the Galicia group when I tried to see your uploads.
You can upload to Rootsweb.com
and make it possible for everyone to see your
images without jumping through hoops first. Of course, YOU have to
Rootsweb before you can do that.
Others should be able to view your images on Rootsweb without registering
At least that is the way it used to be.
Otherwise you may find that anyone willing to help wants you to Email an
of your document.
If no one steps up to help you on this list you might consider:
OLD-GERMAN. A mailing list for anyone with a genealogical or historical
interest in deciphering and interpreting written documents in German from
earliest to most recent 20th Century times, and discussing old German words,
phrases, names, abbreviations and antique jargon. To subscribe send "subscribe"
(mailto:firstname.lastname@example.org) (mail mode) or
(mailto:email@example.com) (digest mode).
The old-german list has a number of very knowledgeable people on it - some
are professional translators
but I have never seen anyone suggest there would be a fee to look at a few
placenames and try to
figure them out.
Be sure that you ask if they can access the documents easily at Yahoo or if
they would prefer
to have an attachment sent. If you send an attachment, send the highest
resolution you can so
it will enlarge significantly to show the place names more exactly.

List members, remember that you can use places like Rootsweb Message boards
to post images
that you want to identify -- either photos or documents.
Just type all boards as your selection or use the surname you are
researching if you want to narrow
it down a little.
People who are not members of Rootsweb
may be unwilling to post a reply there because they don't want to register
there. So be sure to
put an alternate contact Email in any message you post about the image you
Then helpers can write to you directly. That way you don't have to go
back to Rootsweb to see
if anyone replied (but that is a good idea anyway).
AND be sure to thank anyone who replies even if to refer you to someone
