This was *extremely* common in the old country. In fact, in the records I've
researched so far, you can nearly be guaranteed that if a child died, the next
child of that sex born to that family would be named the exact same name. I found
it odd when I first saw the phenomenon, but after seeing hundreds of records, now
it almost seems "normal" to me.

That with the next childs name happened in my Family. My "Uncle" was
named "Franz" but he died in infancy, so my father was the next
boy born and he was named "Franz". When I first heard that
story I thought my Grandmother would not have wanted to be reminded
of the little guy, but she may have simply followed tradition.
