I am searching the above name, which is in my son-in-law's family. Have
found a CHARLES RAGOTZY in the 1860 census of Kalamazoo County, Michigan
along with his wife CHRISTINE and two sons, ALBERT, age 3, born in
Canada and GUSTAVE age 1, born in Michigan. CHARLES was from Prussia
and CHRISTINE from Saxony. They obviously emigrated from Germany to
Canada about 1856-57. I have also found CHARLES listed as CARL and the
wife's name about four different ways. Could be that he was married
several times, but can't prove that yet.
Anyone recognize these names, have them in your family tree? Was the
Ragotzy name unusual or a common name in a specific area?
Appreciate any help.
