1a) Who is a member?
I agree -- County Coordinators & Special Project Coordinators are voting
members, with a max of 2 per county or Special Project.
What about Assistant Coordinators? Does that need to be defined? Should
they be considered non-voting members? My thoughts are...
An Assistant Coordinator is someone who aids the County or SP Coordinator(s)
on a regular basis by contributing records or assisting researchers, but is
not responsible for the maintanence of the website. They could be
considered non-voting members, meaning that they have the option of being
subbed to GAGEN, but don't participate in elections. What do y'all think?
A county shouldn't need more than 2
people to *coordinate* it, and if a special project does, maybe it should
be broken into smaller projects.
I agree. For County sites: a max of 2 Co-CCs -or- 1 CC + 1 Asst-CC. (Or,
should it be 2 CCs + 1 Asst-CC -or- 1 CC + 2 Asst-CCs?? I'm just thinking
about people who are lucky enough to have a lot of helpers). For Special
Projects, a max of 2 Co-Coordinators... but big SPs like a Military Project
could probably use as much help as they can get. If Asst-Coordinators
aren't voting members, then I wouldn't think it'd matter how many assistants
there are.
1b) Voting rights? One person, one vote. I agree a certain
"residency
period" is reasonable; what the length of that is, I have no current
opinion.
I agree - one person, one vote. 3 months residency sounds pretty reasonable
to me, but I don't really have a strong opinion on that.
2) How to become a member (qualifications for getting a site)?
I think the only *qualification* should be a desire to help researchers by
coordinating a website that is consistant with the GAGenWeb Purpose
Statement and Bylaws. I don't think that technical knowledge or prior
experience as a webmaster should be a requirement... there are lots of
knowledgeable, helpful researchers out there who have never made a website,
but would make great CCs if they were taught (although there should be some
time frame set for learning).
3) Losing membership? I would say abandonment would be defined by
being
non-responsive for a certain time period, although I don't currently have
a
particular time period in mind.
Hmmm... I have some thoughts on that, but it's past my bedtime now!
